Je dois vous donner une brève réponse à vos deux lettres reçues ces derniers jours, car, sur quelques particuliers, je m'en remets aux premières que je vous ai écrites; et bien que je vous aie également averti de ne vous laisser tromper d'aucune façon, je vous le rappelle, car vous voulez croire que [leurs] sentiments [ont changé], car [l'État] a toujours été particulièrement [contraire à mes intérêts], et il le sera toujours, quoi qu'on en dise. Je ne [le croirai jamais], cependant.
Vous pouvez aussi tirer profit de cet avertissement [mais dissimulez-vous et montrez que vous y croyez]. Quant à l'exercice de la religion, abstenez-vous d'en discourir, car peu m'importe qu'on en parle encore. Quand j'y serai, j'en ferai autant que possible, comme je vous l'ai déjà écrit.
Je m'émerveille que vous ne m'ayez pas écrit au sujet de mes autres prétentions auprès de la Couronne. J'aimerais que vous y pensiez et que vous sollicitiez son paiement de la même, ainsi qu'une compensation pour les dommages que j'ai subis du fait des contributions de la Poméranie.
Quant à votre départ, suivez les instructions que vous avez déjà reçues de mes autres. Cependant, si vous savez que vous pouvez m'être utile en restant plus longtemps, faites-le. Je vous rappelle également les dangers que vous courez en voyageant à cette époque de l'année, en raison de la difficulté des cols. Jag behöver ge Er ett kort svar på Era två brev som jag har mottagit med de senaste poster, eftersom jag i vissa avseenden återgår till de första breven jag skrev till Er; och även om jag också har varnat Er för att inte låta Er luras på något sätt, påminner jag Er om det igen, ty Ni vill tro att [deras] känslor [har förändrats], eftersom [Staten] alltid särskilt har varit [i strid med mina intressen], och den kommer alltid att vara det, säg vad man vill. Jag kommer dock [aldrig att tro] detta.
Ni kan också utnyttja denna varning, [men dissimulera Er och visa att Ni tror på den]. Vad gäller utövandet av religion, avstå från att diskutera den, ty jag bryr mig inte om huruvida det talas om den längre. När jag kommer dit skall jag använda den så mycket jag kan, som jag har ju skrivit till Er vid andra tillfällen.

I need to give you a brief reply to your two letters which I have received in these last few ordinaries, because in some particulars I remit myself to the first letters I wrote to you; and although I have also warned you not to let yourself be deceived in any way, I remind you of it again, seeing that you want to believe that [their] feelings [have changed], since [the State] has always particularly been [contrary to my interests], and it always will be, say what one will. I will [never believe] this, however.
You may avail yourself of this warning too, [but dissemble and show that you believe it]. As for the exercise of religion, refrain from making any discourse of it, because I don't care if it is spoken of any more. When I get there, I will make as much use of it as I can, as I have written to you at other times.
I am surprised that you have not written to me about my other pretensions that I have with the Crown. I would like you to think of them and to solicit payment from the same, as well as compensation for the damages I have suffered by the contributions of Pomerania.
As for your departure from there, follow the instructions you already have from my other letters. However, if you know you can be of some service to me by staying longer, do it. I also remind you of the perils you may run while traveling at this season of the year, due to the difficulty of the passes. Therefore, in this point, I leave it to your discretion to do what God, from whom I desire for you all the best, inspires you. From Hamburg, December 28, 1666.
