Mon Cousin, Je m'interesse d'vne maniere Si particuliere dans la fortune du Capitaine Claudio Martelli, que Je ne puis m'empescher de Vous renouueller mes recommendations en Sa faueur Sur le bruit, qui court de quelque reforme dans la Garnison de Cremone, ou il Se trouue presentement auec Sa Compagnie d'Jnfanterie. Je Vous prie de luy continuer vostre protection pour luy faire la grace de le conseruer dans le Seruice Sans le reformer, vous asseurant que Je Vous Seray Sensiblement obligèe des toutes les bontèz, que Vous aurèz pour ce Gentilhomme en consideration de cet office, que Je passe du meilleur de Mon coeur; et me Seruant de cette occasion pour Vous renouueller aussi les asseurances de Mon estime, et amitie, qui Sont entierem[en]t acquises à vostre merite, Je prie Dieu qu'il Vous tienne en Sa Sainte garde. Jag ber Er att fortsätta Ert skydd av honom, att göra honom den nåd att hålla honom i tjänst utan att reformera honom, försäkrande Er om att jag kommer att vara förnuftigt skyldig Er för all den vänlighet Ni kommer att ha mot denne herre, med hänsyn till detta ämbete, som jag passerar från mitt hjärtas bästa; och genom att använda detta tillfälle att förnya Er också försäkringarna om min aktning och vänskap, som helt och hållet beror på Era förtjänster, ber jag till Gud att han skall ha Er i sin heliga vård.

I am so particularly interested in the fortune of Captain Claudio Martelli that I cannot refrain from renewing my recommendations to you in his favour, due to the rumour which is circulating of some reform in the garrison of Cremona, where he is presently with his infantry company. I beg you to continue your protection of him, to do him the grace to keep him in the service without reforming him, assuring you that I will be sensibly obliged to you for all the kindnesses you will have for this gentleman, in consideration of this office, that I pass from the best of my heart; and using this opportunity to renew to you also the assurances of my esteem and friendship, which are entirely due to your merit, I pray God that He have you in His holy keeping.
