Io veramente avrei creduto che stante la proroga dell'elezione sino a maggio fosse stato bene di differir ancora lo sparger voce di me per non mettermi tanto presto in ciarle e per non portar pregiudizio così al negozio, conformandomi in ciò ai sentimenti ed alle considerazioni di Vostra Serenità altre volte significatemi. Pour ce que vous m'avez mandé du départ du Pére Prieur pour les Provinces d'alentour, afin de pressentir la Noblesse sur mon sujet, & découvrir leurs sentimens intérieurs là-dessus, j'ai cru que la Diette pour l'Election étant prorogée jusqu'en May, il seroit bon de différer encore de faire parler de moi sitôt, pour ne pas porter préjudice à l'affaire, comme vous me l'avez dit précédemment. Cependant, comme vous vous trouvez sur les lieux, & que vous avez estimé à propos de donner tel ordre, dont les motifs, la maniére, & les précautions même semblent être de poids, je remets le tout à votre direction, & j'espére que le succès n'en sera que bon. ...

J'aurais sincèrement cru que, compte tenu de l'ajournement de l'élection à mai, il aurait été préférable de différer encore la diffusion de ces informations, afin de ne pas devenir si tôt l'objet de rumeurs et de ne pas compromettre l'affaire, me conformant en cela aux sentiments et aux considérations que Votre Sérénité m'a exprimés à d'autres occasions. Néanmoins, puisqu'elle, qui est sur place, a jugé opportun de donner cet ordre maintenant, moi qui me suis entièrement remise à sa direction, j'espère qu'il n'en résultera que de bons résultats.

Otrzymałam list Waszej Wysokości z 12 dnia ubiegłego miesiąca, wraz z zaszyfrowaną stroną zawierającą wiadomość o wyjeździe ojca przeora, który ma rozpowszechniać wśród szlachty informacje na mój temat, aby zbadać ich nastawienie. Naprawdę uważałam, że biorąc pod uwagę odroczenie wyborów do maja, lepiej byłoby jeszcze odłożyć rozpowszechnianie informacji na mój temat, aby nie stać się tak szybko przedmiotem plotek i nie zaszkodzić sprawie, zgadzając się w tym z poglądami i rozważaniami, które Wasza Wysokość wyraził mi przy innych okazjach. I have received Your Serenity's letter of the 12th of last month, with the ciphered page containing the news of the departure from there of the Father Prior, who is going around to spread some information about me among the nobility, in order to discover the disposition of their minds. I truly would have believed that, given the postponement of the election until May, it would have been better to further postpone spreading news about me, so as not to become the subject of gossip so soon and not to prejudice the matter, I conforming in this to the sentiments and considerations that Your Serenity has expressed to me on other occasions. Nevertheless, since you, who are on the spot, have esteemed it appropriate to give this order now, I, who have totally remitted myself to your direction, want to hope that only a good outcome will result from it.
As for the legate's mission, as far as I can know, I am of the sense that nothing more will be done, and the whole matter will be left in Your Serenity's hands, so that you will have the occasion to work for my advantage with the same zeal and application you have done so far; and I, who have placed all my confidence in you, and who would not want you to lose the merit of what you have already done in this affair, will be pleased if things proceed in this way; and I wish you, etc.
