The biography:
Christina resigned the crown in the year 1654, when she was only in the prime of life. A dislike to public affairs, a desire of cultivating the arts in their proper country; and, more than all, the love of liberty, induced her to that strange resolution. The assembled states endeavoured in vain to retain a queen whom they loved. She was obstinate, and suddenly left Stockholm, saying, "My part is played."
Above: Kristina.
