Al Nunzio di Vienna, 3 Lug:o. 1661.
Monsig:e. Poiche richiedono li miei affari ch'io mi trattenga per qualche tempo in questi parti, vorrei sodisfar a me stessa con impiegarmi anche in benefizio della nostra Ortodossa Religione, mentre hò potuto scorgere, che non sarebbero per riuscir affatto vani i tentativi, che si facessero per introdurne il libero essercizio tanto in questa Città, quanto in Danemarca; Ma perche l'Impresa per se stessa è grande, vorrei prima d'intraprenderla esser provista dell' assistenza, e favore di S:a M:a C:rea per facilitar maggiormente gl animi a condescender all' instanza: Essendo però questo pensiero di cosa tanto pia, e degna d'esser ardentemente promossa anche da V. S. piglio seco la confidenza di pregarla, come faccio con ogni strettezza, di procurarmi da S. M:ta C. due lettere, una diretta à questa Città, e l'altrà al Rè di Danemarca, nelle quali mostri efficacemente, che compiascendosi al mio desiderio in questo particolare, si farà cosa cosi grata à S. M:ta che havrà disgusto non ordinario di sentir che segua il contrario. M'assicuro che V. S. havrà in ciò premura eguale non meno al zelo, che deve haver per la nostra Religione, che alla vivezza con che io ne la prego, e che troverà S. M. disposta a favorirmi in questa occorrenza, onde attenderò quanto prima le lettere. Resta che V. S. sappia, ch'io non vorrei chi si trattasse questo negozio se non con somma segrettezza, ed in modo che non ne arrivasse a Roma alcuna notizia, prima che si fosse tirato a felice fine, non convenendo di publicarne i trattati si per l'incertezza di riportarna buon esito, come per il pregiudizio che potria derivarne al medemo ed alli miei interessi particolari. Sia però sicura, che se piacerà a Dio di render fruttuosa questa mia applicazione, io ne darò opportunamente l'avviso à V. S. acciò ella prima d'ogn' altro possa poi trasmetterlo ove le parerà, e quando non sia possibile d'ottener l'intento, mi sarà ella almeno testimonio, ch'io non havrò mancato di far le mie parti per conseguirlo. Annessa riceverà V. S. la lettera di S. M. e raccomandandole di nuovo il tutto con ogni caldezza, le bramo prosperità e salute.
English translation (my own):
To the Nuncio of Vienna, July 3, 1661.
Monsignor. Since my affairs require me to keep me for some time in these parts, I would like to satisfy myself by employing myself also in the benefit of our orthodox religion, while I could have perceived that attempts would not be in vain to introduce its free exercise both in this city and in Denmark. But since the enterprise itself is great, I would like before undertaking it to be provided with the assistance and favor of His Imperial Majesty in order to make it easier for the spirits to condescend to the request. However, since this thought is so pious, and worthy of being ardently promoted by Your Holiness, I take the confidence to ask you, as I do with every strictness, to obtain two letters from His Imperial Majesty, one addressed to this city, and the other to there; the other to the King of Denmark, in whom you show effectively, that by pleasing my desire in this particular, something so grateful to His Majesty will be done that he will have no ordinary disgust at hearing that the opposite follows. I assure you that Your Holiness will have equal concern in this no less than the zeal you must have for our religion, than the vivacity with which I beg you, and that you will find His Majesty willing to help me in this occasion, so that I will wait to receive the letters as soon as possible. It remains that Your Holiness knows that I would not want whoever treated this negotiation except with the utmost secrecy, and so that no news of it would arrive in Rome, before it was drawn to a happy ending, not agreeing to publish the treatises for uncertainty of having a good result, as well as for the prejudice that could derive from the same of mine and my particular interests. Be sure, however, that if it pleases God to make this application of mine fruitful, I will appropriately give notice to Your Holiness so that first of all you can then transmit it wherever you will, and when it is not possible to obtain the intent, you will at least be a witness to me, that I will not have failed to do my part to achieve it. Your Holiness will receive enclosed the letter from His Majesty, and, recommending everything again with all warmth, I desire your prosperity and health.
