Emedan nu avskeden äro [nu] allaredo underskrivna och förseglade av mediatoren och bägge sidors kommissarier och nu allting beror på ratifikationerna, pacta och eljest innehålla att en av Riksens Råd med en sekreterare på varje sidan skulle mötas åt på gränsen vid Markaryd till den 13 septembris nu nästkommande, havandes med sig förberörda pakters ratification; varföre, där så vore att I, eftersom i traktaten anno 1612 är skett, hava låtit skriva tvenne originalia av avskedet, då begäre Vi nådigast att I ville försända Oss strax det ena tillhanda, att Vi så mycket vissare att det korrekt är måge kunna i tid förfärdiga låta ratifikationen efter den förra formen, såframt eljest något nytt projekt nu däröver av Eder avfattat vore och den nedsända; så att I, herr Thure Bielke, som Vi förordnat have med samma Vår ratifikation på gränsen till Markaryd att förresa och den, eftersom pakterna det förmå, överleverera och emottaga den danska ratifikationen, den Vi förmode skall under kungens i Danmarks hand och sekret i lika måtto utan något vingel och inkast av honom bliva Eder igen tillställt; då ock sekreteraren Israel Israelsson skall vara Eder därhän följaktig, eftersom I detta härnäst hava Vår vidare order att förvänta.

Eljest have Vi ock med denna post låtit Vår order avgå såväl till fältmarskalken herr Gustaf Horn som alla andra höga officianter och landshövdingar uti provincierna vid gränserna, att de innehålla med fientlig aktualitet, såsom ock med förra posten sänt bemälde fältmarskalk lista och förslag på militien, vad för folk därav nu skall översändas åt Tyskland till rekrye[r], hurusom det övriga folket skall bliva lagt på befästningarna så i Halland som ock de andra orter uti garnisoner samt vad folk som hem förlovas skall, eftersom ock Eder då en kort förteckning av samma Vårt förslag tillskickad blev, i den mening att I med fältmarskalken däröver korrespondera skole och så I som han låte Oss med forderligste förnimma om något kunde vara därvid att påminna.

Uti det övriga, eftersom I uti Eder skrivelse allenast kortligen mentionera Eder ville med nästa post göra Oss en utförlig relation huruvida I med de statiska ambassadörer komna äro, så vele Vi den förvänta; och Eder kan Vårt nådiga betänkande däröver förnimma låte, befallandes, etc.

Notre faveur spéciale, etc. Nous, féaux hommes et commissaires du traité de paix danois, avons reçu, avant-hier par la poste ordinaire, votre lettre, datée de Söderåkra le 16 du courant, contenant la copie de la conclusion et du décret du traité, que Nous et Notre très cher Conseil du Royaume avons fait lire. Nous avons trouvé tous ses articles, rédigés par vos soins, à Notre entière satisfaction, ainsi qu'à l'honneur, à la réputation et au bien-être du Royaume et du Nôtre, ce que Nous reconnaissons et comprenons avec toute Notre grâce royale. Nous Nous réjouissons également grandement qu'un résultat aussi heureux et pacifique ait été obtenu pour ledit traité grâce à la bénédiction de Dieu et à vos négociations minutieuses.

Étant donné que les déclarations sont désormais signées et scellées par le médiateur et les commissaires des deux parties, et que tout dépend maintenant des ratifications, des pactes et autres points, un conseiller, accompagné d'un secrétaire de chaque côté, devrait se réunir à la frontière de Markaryd le 13 septembre prochain, muni de la ratification des pactes en question; par conséquent, si vous possédiez, depuis la conclusion du traité de 1612, deux exemplaires originaux de la déclaration, Nous vous prions instamment de bien vouloir Nous en envoyer un immédiatement, afin que Nous puissions Nous assurer de son exactitude et préparer la ratification en temps voulu et conformément à la version originale, à moins que vous n'ayez déjà élaboré et transmis un nouveau projet; afin que vous, M. Gustave Horn, ainsi qu'à tous les autres hauts fonctionnaires et gouverneurs des provinces frontalières, qui connaissent une actualité hostile. De même, avec le courrier précédent, Nous avons adressé audit feldmaréchal une liste et une proposition concernant la milice, quels hommes devraient être envoyés en Allemagne comme recrues; comment le reste des effectifs devrait être affecté aux fortifications de Halland et des autres localités en garnison; et quels hommes devraient être autorisés à rentrer chez eux. Puisque vous Nous avez également transmis une brève liste de Notre même proposition, Nous vous suggérons d'en discuter avec le feldmaréchal et de Nous informer tous deux, dans les plus brefs délais, de tout élément à préciser.

Au reste, puisque dans votre lettre vous mentionnez seulement brièvement que vous souhaitez Nous donner un compte rendu détaillé dans votre prochain courrier d'avancement de vos relations avec les ambassadeurs des États, Nous Nous attendons à le recevoir; et vous pouvez être apprendre Notre gracieuse considération à cet égard, vous recommendant, etc.

Our especial favour, etc. We have, faithful men and commissioners to the Danish peace treaty, received, the day before yesterday through the ordinary post, your letter, dated Söderåkra on the 16th of this month, and therein the copy of the conclusion and the decree of the treaty, which We and Our well-beloved Council of the Realm have had read, and We have found all its articles written by you to be to Our gracious pleasure, as well as to Our and the Realm's honour, reputation and welfare, which We acknowledge and understand with all royal grace, as We also greatly rejoice over it, that such a happy and peaceful outcome of the said treaty has been achieved through the blessing of God and through your careful negotiating.

Since the declarations are now already signed and sealed by the mediator and the commissioners of both sides, and now everything depends on the ratifications, pacts and other content that one of the councilmen, with a secretary on each side, should meet on the border at Markaryd on this coming September 13, having with them the ratification of the pacts in question; wherefore, if it were so that you, since the treaty in 1612 was made, have had two originals of the declaration written, then We most graciously desire that you would send Us one immediately, so that We may be more certain that it is correct and so that We may be able to have the ratification prepared in time and in accordance with the former form, unless otherwise some new project has now been drawn up by you and sent down; so that you, Lord Thure Bielke, whom We have ordered to have with you Our ratification, to travel to the border at Markaryd and, since the pacts allow it, to deliver and receive the Danish ratification, which We assume will be sent to you again under the hand and seal of the King of Denmark in the same way without any hesitation or interference from him; then also the secretary Israel Israelsson will follow you there, since next to this you will now have Our further order to expect.

For the rest, We have also sent Our order with this post to the field marshal Lord Gustaf Horn, as well as to all other high officials and governors in the provinces on the borders, that they contain with hostile actuality, as We have also with the previous post sent the said field marshal a list and proposition for the militia as to what kind of people from it should now be sent to Germany as recruits, how the rest of the people should be placed on the fortifications both in Halland and the other places in garrisons, and what people should be given leave to go home, since you also then have sent a short list of Our same proposition, in the opinion that you should correspond with the field marshal about it and that both you and he should let Us know with at the soonest opportunity if there might be anything to remind about.

For the rest, since in your letter you only briefly mention that you want to give Us a detailed relation in the next post of how far you have come with the States' ambassadors, We want to expect it; and you can will learn Our gracious consideration on this, We commending you, etc.

Our especial favour, etc. Whereas We, faithful men and commissioners, are informed by your last letter from Söderåkra, of the 13th, that you [...] were then travelling on your way to the border to have the declaration signed, and We now quite believe that peace will be concluded, We have now let Our letter go off to the Admiral, Lord Erik Ryning, that he should make his way home with the largest and most numerous ships of Our fleet and let Admiral Åke Hansson run with twelve or 14 of the remaining ships over to Germany with recruits, and We have also written to the General Artillery Master, Carl Gustaf Wrangel, that he should hurry with the same recruits up to Field Marshal Torstensson, the which letters We send enclosed to you here, most graciously desiring that you arrange for Our same letters to be sent there immediately.

For the rest, in accordance with the design We have now taken, We have also let proposals be made for the people whom We intend to send over to Germany as recruits, both to use them in the garrison as well as domestically at the border fortresses as well as in Halland and the other Danish islands and lands ceded to Us, the which proposals We have sent with this post to Field Marshal Lord Gustaf Horn, as well as copies thereof to be sent to you, so that you may see from them how the design taken on this here is. We have now sent Our letter to the Field Marshal Lord Gustaf Horn, requesting that Field Marshal Lord Lennart Torstensson needs some recruits this autumn, because he therefore, as he to whom the fortifications in Halland are well-known, wanted to let Us know his sentiments as soon as possible on how many people he believes will be needed in the proposed fortifications and for the country's defense, as well as how many and what people We could best send. And 3., that after everything else that has been disputed between Us and Denmark, both over the free and undisturbed course of commerce and navigation through the Sound and the Belt, as well as over satisfaction and assurance, is clear and accorded, and the difficulty now only arises in the bishopric of Bremen, you desire that We instruct you on how We wish it to be dealt with, that either you will follow Our previous order and strictly so in the highest degree, or that you also allow the restitution of the bishopric to proceed in accordance with the mediator's proposal.

For a most gracious answer and information on Our opinion and final resolution on this matter, We do indeed gladly learn that the treaty has come to these terms; We thank God, who has so far felicitated and assisted Our counsels and your careful negotiations.

Now, We wrote to you on July 23, letting you understand that for some particular reasons and considerations (which We deem unnecessary to repeat here), We then considered it a good and convenient expedient that you remit the affair of the restitution of the bishopric of Bremen to the treaty in Germany and thereby relieve yourself from the mediator's and the Danes' obstinate request in this matter. It would also be no less necessary than advantageous to Us and the realm, as you yourselves well know, in the current state of affairs if We could remain in complete possession of the said bishopric, at least for as long as we are in the German war.

But as We have noticed in the meantime from your later letter of July 30 what new difficulties would arise for you in this matter, and We have considered that because We would not want to accommodate Ourself to the mediator's proposal or to gratify the King of Denmark's son with anything, We would not only take on blame from all people, but he would also seek every means to establish himself with practices in the bishopric again, and We would therefore always have a certain enemy to expect in him.

Therefore, and as We are now satisfied in everything else and the difficulty now only lies in this, We have to show the world that the bishopric of Bremen is not of such great concern to Us and that We therefore do not want to wage war, but We esteem that peace is more beneficial to Us and Our Realm, as We wrote to you on August 2 about what Our final opinion was regarding the restitution of the said bishopric of Bremen, namely that you should finally, seeing that you cannot proceed further, resolve to give Us and the Crown the most important fortifications in the bishopric with as much land under them as Our garrisons on the same fortifications can be maintained with, and then to restitute the rest to the Bishop after the treaty is concluded, with the condition stated therein, by which resolution We now also allow it to stand, as We partly have thoughts that you perhaps will have concluded the treaty before this Our letter reaches you.

Then We most graciously entrust to you that, after considering all matters, you will make the counsel that may be most agreeable to Us and Our State, and then you will conclude the treaty in the Lord's name. This alone occurs to Us herein to remind you that after the King of Denmark, who will be gratified by Us with the restitution of the bishopric, you will therefore diligently seek that he and the King of Denmark thereby oblige themselves to let Us receive all the German people and foreign people whom they have used against us in this war and who are undoubtedly now being dismissed, so that they may not come into the service of the Emperor or Our enemies; and We hereby want, etc.

Now, as We do not know anything otherwise than that this matter had already been largely agreed upon 3 months ago and that it had been granted by the Danes that the Pomeranians and Mecklenburgians, as clients of Our and Sweden's Crown, and those who have been hostilely attacked by Denmark because they have Our garrisons, should be included under the freedom of customs and passage, so We would also gladly see that they may be obtained and preserved by treaty, either if such were to occur in forma under the pacts that could be concluded between the two kingdoms, or also that such freedom be accorded to them by a special recess.

For this reason, We also graciously recommend this matter and desire that you work to obtain for the said Pomeranian Hanseatic cities the same freedom as was already accorded to them almost 3 months ago and granted to them by the Danes, but which unfortunately, by and through the malice of the other said Pomeranian Hanseatic cities, has now been retracted, the which information We have not wanted to withhold from you, at the submissive request of their plenipotentiary Pascovius; and We commend you, etc., etc.
