Giunta in questa Città hò ricevuta per le mani del P. Pietro Giesuita, la lettera di V. S. colle facoltà per D. Gio. Vaquier, a cui s'erano procurate, affinche se ne valesse in benefizio de' Catholici di Stockholm, ove io bramava ch'egli restasse; mà le mie persuasive non hanno potuto indurlo a sodisfar a questo mio desiderio, scusandosi con dir di dover andar in Francia per suoi proprij interessi dopo la morte di Mazzarino, come hà poi fatto: Onde rimangono quei Cattolici senza Ministro Ecclesiastico; Voglio però credere che il Residente medesimo di Francia sia per haver pensiere d'introdurvi qualche altro Sacerdote. Intanto hò voluto che V. S. sia informata della cagione per la quale non hà potuto perfettionarsi la mia intenzione, e ringraziandola della premura, con che ella è concorsa ad un fine cosi pio, le desidero per fine da Dio ogni bene.

Giunta in questa città ho ricevuta per le mani del padre Pietro, giesuita, la lettera di Vostra Serenità colle facoltà per don Giovanni Vaquier, a cui s'erano procurate, affinché se ne valesse in benefizio de' cattolici di Stoccolm[a], ove io bramava ch'egli restasse; ma le mie persuasive non hanno potuto indurlo a soddisfar a questo mio desiderio, scusandosi con dir di dover andar in Francia per suoi propri interessi dopo la morte di Mazarino, come ha poi fatto, onde rimangono quei cattolici senza ministro ecclesiastico. Voglio però credere che il residente medesimo di Francia sia per aver pensiere d'introdurvi qualche altro sacerdote. Arrivée dans cette ville, j'ai reçu des mains du père Pierre, jésuite, la lettre de Votre Sérénité avec les facultés pour don Jean Vaquier, à qui elles avaient été obtenues, afin qu'elles puissent être utilisées au profit des catholiques de Stockholm, où je désirais qu'il séjourne; mais mes convictions ne purent l'engager à satisfaire cet mon désir, s'excusant en disant qu'il devait aller en France pour ses propres intérêts après la mort de Mazarin, comme il le fit plus tard, laissant ces catholiques sans ministre ecclésiastique. Cependant, je veux croire que le résident de France lui-même envisage de présenter un autre prêtre. Cependant, j'ai voulu que Votre Sérénité soit informée de la raison pour laquelle mon intention n'a pu se réaliser; et, la remerciant du soin avec lequel elle a contribué à un si pieux but, je lui souhaite toutes les bonnes choses de Dieu.

Efter att ha anlänt till denna stad, har jag från fader Pietro, en jesuit, erhållit Ers Durchlauchtighets brev med fakulteterna för don Giovanni Vaquier, till vilken de hade anskaffats, så att de kunde användas till förmån för katolikerna i Stockholm, där jag önskade att han skulle stanna; men mina övertygelser kunde inte förmå honom att tillfredsställa denna min önskan, ursäktande sig själv med att säga att han var tvungen att resa till Frankrike för sina egna intressen efter Mazarins död, vilket han senare gjorde, och lämnade dessa katoliker utan en kyrklig minister. Jag vill dock tro att residenten i Frankrike själv funderar på att introducera någon annan präst. From Hamburg, July 11, 1661.
Having arrived in this city, I have received from the hands of Father Pietro, a Jesuit, Your Serenity's letter with the faculties for Don Giovanni Vaquier, to whom they had been procured, so that it could be used for the benefit of the Catholics of Stockholm, where I desired that he would stay; but my persuasions could not induce him to satisfy this my desire, excusing himself by saying that he had to go to France for his own interests after the death of Mazarin, as he later did, leaving those Catholics without an ecclesiastical minister. However, I want to believe that the resident of France himself is thinking of introducing some other priest. In the meantime, I have wanted Your Serenity to be informed of the reason why my intention could not be perfected; and, thanking you for the care with which you have contributed to such a pious goal, I wish you all good things from God.
