"La Reine sans-doute pour faire connoître au Monde Catholique que, malgré les chagrins qu'elle croyoit qu'on lui avoit causés en Suède, elle n'étoit pas capable de se repentir d'avoir embrassé la Croyance Romaine, ni de relâcher rien de sa ferveur pour la Religion qu'elle avoit embrassée; & aussi pour faire sentir aux Suédois qu'elle ne pensoit jamais de la quitter, conçut l'idée de procurer aux Catholiques, tant en Dannemarc qu'à Hambourg, le libre exercice de leur Religion. Ce fut dans cette vue qu'elle entama une espéce de Négociation auprès des principales Cours des Princes Catholiques, qui dura au-delà de six mois, où elle leur exposa les moyens par lesquels elle jugeoit l'affaire faisable. Nous produirons quelques-unes de ses Lettres sur ce sujet; & en premier lieu celle qu'elle écrivit au Nonce Apostolique de Cologne, conçue en ces termes (Lettere à Diversi pag. 107.). ...
Quelques expressions de cette Lettre font assez entrevoir, que l'intention du voyage de Christine en Suède avoit aussi été d'y effectuer quelque chose en faveur du Catholicisme (V. Mém. de Christine T. II. pag. 45. &c.), dont pourtant elle fut détournée par les résolutions brusques des Etats, assemblés alors en Diette."
"The Queen, no doubt to make known to the Catholic world that, despite the chagrins she believed had been caused her in Sweden, she was not capable of repenting of having embraced the Roman creed, nor of relaxing any of her fervour for the religion she had embraced; and also, to make the Swedes feel that she never thought of leaving it, she conceived the idea of procuring for the Catholics, both in Denmark and in Hamburg, the free exercise of their religion. It was with this view that she began a kind of negotiation with the principal courts of the Catholic princes which lasted more than six months, where she explained to them the means by which she judged the matter feasible. We will produce some of her letters on this subject; and firstly the one she wrote to the apostolic nuncio of Cologne, conceived in these terms (Lettere a diversi, page 107.). ...
Some expressions in this letter give a clear indication that the intention of Kristina's journey to Sweden had also been to do something there in favour of Catholicism (See Mémoires de Christine, volume II, page 45, etc.), from which, however, she was diverted by the brusque resolutions of the Estates, then assembled in a Riksdag."

Cependant, je veux croire que le résident de France lui-même envisage de présenter un autre prêtre. Efter att ha anlänt till denna stad, har jag från fader Pietro, en jesuit, erhållit Ers Durchlauchtighets brev med fakulteterna för dom Jean Vacquier, till vilken de hade anskaffats, så att de kunde användas till förmån för katolikerna i Stockholm, där jag önskade att han skulle stanna; men mina övertygelser kunde inte förmå honom att tillfredsställa denna min önskan, ursäktande sig själv med att säga att han var tvungen att resa till Frankrike för sina egna intressen efter Mazarins död, vilket han senare gjorde, och lämnade dessa katoliker utan en kyrklig minister. Jag vill dock tro att residenten i Frankrike själv funderar på att introducera någon annan präst. Having arrived in this city, I have received from the hands of Father Pietro, a Jesuit, Your Serenity's letter with the faculties for Dom Jean Vacquier, to whom they had been procured, so that it could be used for the benefit of the Catholics of Stockholm, where I desired that he would stay; but my persuasions could not induce him to satisfy this my desire, excusing himself by saying that he had to go to France for his own interests after the death of Mazarin, as he later did, leaving those Catholics without an ecclesiastical minister. However, I want to believe that the resident of France himself is thinking of introducing some other priest. In the meantime, I have wanted Your Serenity to be informed of the reason why my intention could not be perfected; and, thanking you for the care with which you have contributed to such a pious goal, I wish you all good things from God.
