Hochgebohrner Fürst, Hertzlieber Vetter. E. L. kan ich bey dieser gelegentheit nicht verhalten was man alhier leider für zeitungen spühret, nemlich, dass Baner sehr krank, und aller menschlichkeit nach zu sagen, wirdt er gewiss sterben. Er soll allezeit Grubben zu sich wünschen. Hat auch keinen bey sich, dem er was mit communiciren kan. Hier achtet man solches wenig. Man meint man kan bald einen in der stete bekommen. Aber die kerls lassen sich nicht aus der ermel schütten. Stirbt Baner, so wird es übel daher gehen. Salvius vermant zum frieden. Aber hier ist es des R... C... ernst nicht. Er bekomt filze wenn er von tractaten schreibet. Vergangenen winter solte Grubbe weg ziehn zum tractiren und auch zwei von den Räthen, aber sie sind noch alle hier. Innerhalb etliche tage wird Jo... Ox... aus ziehn. Er und Salvius werden tractiren, aber sie werden schwerlich über eins kommen. Grubbe wierd über morgen ziehen. Hiemit E. L. Göttlicher obhut empfehlend verbleibe.

Högborne Förste, Kärälskelige Frände.
Jag kan med detta tilfället ej underlåta at berätta, hwad för tidningar man här, ty wärr, hafwer, nemligen at Baner är sjuk, och lärer efter alt menskligt utseende, säkert dö. Han har altid önskat, at hafwa Grubben hos sig; ty han har ingen hos sig, åt hwilken han kunde anförtro något. Här frågar man föga derefter. Man menar, at man snart kan få en annan i hans ställe; men sådane karlar låta ej skaka sig utur armen. Dör Baner, så ser det illa ut i Tyskland. Salvius råder til fred; men här har R - - C - - - ej något alfware därmed. Han får korta swar, så ofta han skrifwer om freds underhandlingar. Förleden winter skulle Grubben resa härifrån til at tractera med fjenden, äfwen så twänne af Råderna, men de äro ännu alla här. Inom några dagar skal Jo - - Ox - - - resa hädan. Sérénissime Prince, & très-cher Cousin. Je ne puis laisser ignorer à V. D. dans cette occasion les tristes nouvelles qui ont été apportées ici: que Baner est dangereusement malade & qu'il n'en réchapera pas selon toute apparence humaine. Il desire toûjours que Grubbe vienne auprès de lui. Il n'a même personne à qui il puisse rien communiquer. On ne se soucie guères de cette nouvelle ici. On s'imagine d'en trouver bientôt un autre à sa place. Mais de tels hommes ne tombent pas de la manche, on a beau pour cela la secouër. Si Baner vient à mourir, les affaires n'iront pas bien là. Salvius exhorte à la paix. Mais ce n'est pas là ce que le C... du R... a dans le cœur. Ainsi Salvius n'a que des mercuriales, quand il parle de traités de paix. Grubbe devoit partir l'hiver passé avec deux Membres du Sénat pour la négociation des Traités: mais ils sont encore tous ici. Jo... Ox... partira dans peu de jours. Lui & Salvius iront au Congrès, mais difficilement seront-ils d'accord. Grubbe partira après demain. Je recommence V. D. à la protection divine & je suis toûjours.

Most Serene Prince and beloved Uncle,
I cannot allow Your Lovingness on this occasion to ignore the sad news which has been brought here, that Banér is dangerously ill and that he will not escape from it, according to all human appearance. He still wants Grubbe to come to him. He doesn't even have anyone to whom he can communicate anything. One does not really care about this news here. One imagines that there will soon be found another to take his place. But such men don't come out of thin air, it is in vain to shake them by the sleeve. If Banér dies, affairs will not go well there. Salvius urges peace. But the C... of the R... isn't serious about this. Thus Salvius has only mercurials when he speaks of peace treaties. Grubbe was due to leave last winter with two members of the Senate for the negotiation of treaties, but they are all still here. Jo... Ox... will be leaving in a few days.
