"La Reine venant d'apprendre que l'Empereur avoit rappellé son Ambassadeur Goes de Coppenhague, elle en écrivit au Nonce de Vienne (Lettere a Diversi, le 21. Déc. l. c. p. 138.) en lui remontrant. Combien l'affaire en question empireroit par le départ de ce Ministre, qui a su captiver non seulement la bienveillance du Roi de Dannemarc, mais gagner aussi les principaux Ministres de la Cour & la Nation même, à un point, qu'ils se sont montrés fort favorables aux Catholiques, & qu'avec le tems on leur permettroit d'y jouir d'une sorte de libre exercice de leur Religion. «Je vous en avertis», dit la Reine au Nonce, «pour que ledit Ambassadeur y soit renvoyé, pour le plus grand bien de la Religion Catholique, laquelle sans son concours perdroit beaucoup dans ce quartier-là."
"The Queen having just learned that the Emperor had recalled his ambassador von Goëss from Copenhagen, she wrote to the Nuncio of Vienna (Lettere a diversi, December 21, l. c., page 138.) remonstrating to him how much the matter in question would worsen with the departure of this minister, who had managed to captivate not only the goodwill of the King of Denmark, but also win over the principal ministers of the court and the nation itself, to the point that they had shown themselves very favourable to the Catholics and that in time they would be allowed to enjoy a sort of free exercise of their religion there. 'I am warning you of this', said the Queen to the Nuncio, 'so that the said ambassador may be sent back there for the greater good of the Catholic religion, which, without his support, would lose a great deal in that quarter."

Sentendo che l'Jmp[erato]re habbia richiamato il Baron de Goes, che risedeua con titolo d'Amb[asciato]re in Copenhagen, et essendomì ben nota di quanto giouamento Sia iui la sua presenza agl'interessi della n[ost]ra Relig[io]ne p[er] li part[icola]ri talenti, e buone maniere, colle qualì hà Saputo cattiuarsi non Solo la beneuolenza del Rè mà de P[ri]n[ci]pali di quel Regno, e del Popolo, à Segno che amando e Stimando lui fuor di modo, vengono anche à mostrarsi d'animo più piaceuole verso li Catt[oli]ci, anzi pare che col tempo Siano p[er] guadagnarsi totalm[en]te à permetter qualche Sorte dì libero essercitio per la n[ost]ra Relig[io]ne mediante anco l'opera sua: Ne dò p[er]ò à V. Ne do però a Vostra Serenità questa notizia, affinché per quanto può, e come da se si compiaccia d'operare che il medesimo vi sia rimandato, rimostrando che la di lui persona non potrà esser in alcun altro luogo di profitto maggiore per l'augumento della religione cattolica che in Copenaghen, tanto più ch'egli stesso ne ha mostrato ivi sempre specialmente un zelo particolarissimo come pure è noto a Sua Maestà Cesarea, la dove in mancanza di lui verrà a perdersi tutto l'operato da esso sin'ora per andar, [sapendo] quelle difficoltà e quei rigori che più s'oppongono alla pratica delli nostri eserciti, e resterà indebolita molto quella speranza che si ha di megliori successi.
M'assicuro che Vostra Serenità avrà a cuore questo negozio che non è di lieve considerazione, ed io ne la prego con tutto l'animo per contribuir posso alla gloria di Dio, dal quale bramo a Vostra Serenità vere felicità, ecc.

Apprenant que l'empereur a rappelé le baron de Goëss, qui résidait avec le titre d'ambassadeur à Copenhague, et sachant combien sa présence est bénéfique aux intérêts de notre religion, grâce aux talents particuliers et aux bonnes manières avec lesquels il a su gagner non seulement la bienveillance du roi, mais celle des principaux de ce royaume et du peuple, au point que, l'aimant et l'estimant outre mesure, ils en viennent aussi à se montrer plus aimables envers les catholiques, il semble qu'avec le temps, ils seront entièrement convaincus de permettre un certain libre exercice de notre religion, également grâce à son œuvre.
Je donne cependant ces renseignements à Votre Sérénité, afin qu'autant qu'il pourra et qu'il lui plaira, il y soit renvoyé, montrant que sa personne ne pourra être d'un plus grand profit en aucun autre lieu pour l'essor de la religion catholique qu'à Copenhague, d'autant plus qu'il y a toujours montré lui-même un zèle tout particulier, comme le sait aussi Sa Majesté Impériale, où, en son absence, tout le travail fait par lui jusqu'ici sera perdu, sachant ces difficultés et ces rigueurs qui s'opposent le plus à la pratique de nos exercices, et l'espérance qu'on a de meilleurs succès sera fort affaiblie.
Je m'assure que Votre Sérénité prendra à cœur cette affaire, qui n'est pas de légère considération, et je lui prie de tout cœur de contribuer du mieux qu'elle pourra à la gloire de Dieu, de qui je désire de véritables félicités pour Votre Sérénité, etc.

Eftersom jag hört att kejsaren har kallat tillbaka friherren von Goëss, som vistades med titeln ambassadör i Köpenhamn, och är väl medveten om hur stor nytta hans närvaro där är för vår religions intressen tack vare de särskilda talanger och goda uppföranden med vilka han har kunnat vinna inte bara konungens välvilja, utan även rikets ledares och folkets, i den mån att de, i sin kärlek och aktning över all förmodan, också börjar visa sig ha ett mer välvilligt sinnelag gentemot katoliker, verkar det faktiskt som att de med tiden helt kommer att vinnas för att tillåta någon form av fri utövning av vår religion även genom hans arbete.

Hearing that the Emperor has recalled Baron von Goëss, who resided with the title of ambassador in Copenhagen, and being well aware of how much benefit his presence there is to the interests of our religion due to the particular talents and good manners with which he has been able to win over not only the benevolence of the King, but that of the principals of that kingdom and of the people, to the point that, loving and esteeming him beyond measure, they also come to show themselves of a more pleasant mind towards Catholics, indeed it seems that in time they will be completely won over to allowing some sort of free exercise for our religion also through his work.
I am, in the meantime, giving this information to Your Serenity, so that, as far as he can and as he pleases to do, he may be sent back there, showing that his person will not be able to be of greater benefit in any other place for the growth of the Catholic religion than in Copenhagen, especially since he himself has always shown there a very particular zeal, as is also known to His Imperial Majesty, where, in his absence, all the work done by him up to now will be lost, knowing those difficulties and those rigours that most oppose the practice of our exercises, and the hope that one has of better successes will be greatly weakened.
I assure myself that Your Serenity will take to heart this matter, which is not of light consideration, and I beg you with all my heart to contribute to the best of your ability to the glory of God, from whom I desire true felicities for Your Serenity, etc.
