Pour les pensées philosophiques & l'esprit que vous m'envoyez, Monsieur, je ne peux vous faire tenir en échange que des remercimens & des rhéenes qui vous garantiront du froid.
Je ne suis pas aussi vaine, ni aussi magnifique que Louis XI, qui faisoit présent, à tous les Souverains de l'Europe, des bêtes du nord les plus rares & les plus singulieres. Je me contente d'envoyer à mes meilleurs amis quelques productions sauvages de mon pays glacé. Vous, Monsieur, me faites part avec profusion de ce qu'il y a de plus estimable, de plus recherché, & desiré avec passion par-tout où il y a des hommes qui pensent.
Si vous ériez d'humeur à faire le voyage de Suéde, vous trouveriez en moi une admiratrice, & une amie officieuse & solide.
Vous êtes connu ici autant qu'en aucun lieu du monde, & vous gouteriez à ma Cour, repos, plaisir, & sur toute chose, pleine liberté; précieuse sans doute à tous les hommes, mais sans prix au yeux du sage.
Faites donc un nouvel effort de courage, & arrivez promptement. Vous me vous repentirez jamais d'avoir vu de près la fille de Gustave. Elle sera sa gloire & son bonheur de s'entretenir & de s'instruire avec vous.

För de filosofiska tankarna och den ande som Ni skickar till mig, monsieur, kan jag endast hålla Er i utbyte mot tacket och rhéenes som garanterar Er kylan.
Jag är inte lika fåfäng och inte lika storslagen som Ludvig XI, som gav alla Europas suveräner de sällsynta och mest sällsynta bestarna i norden. Jag nöjer mig med att skicka några vilda produktioner av mitt isiga land till mina bästa vänner. Ni, monsieur, berättar rikligt om vad som är mest uppskattat, mest eftertraktat och önskat med passion överallt där det finns män som tänker.
Om Ni skulle vara på humör att resa till Sverige, skulle Ni i mig finna en beundrare och en kunnig och solid vän.
Ni är känd här så väl som på ingen plats i världen, och Ni skulle smaka vid mitt hov vila, njutning och framför allt full frihet; dyrbar, utan tvekan, för alla människor, men ovärderlig i den vise mannens ögon.
Så gör en ny insats av mod och kom omgående. Ni kommer aldrig ångra att Ni sett Gustavs dotter på nära håll. Det skall vara hennes ära och hennes lycka att tala och lära med Er.

For the philosophical thoughts and the spirit that you send to me, Monsieur, I can only hold you in exchange for the thanks and the rheanes who will guarantee you the cold.
I am not as vain nor as magnificent as Louis XI, who made present to all the sovereigns of Europe the rarest and most singular beasts of the north. I am content to send to my best friends some wild productions of my icy country. You, Monsieur, tell me profusely of what is most estimable, most sought after, and desired with passion everywhere where there are men who think.
If you would be in the mood to travel to Sweden, you would find in me an admirer and an officious and solid friend.
You are known here as well as in no place in the world, and you would taste at my court repose, pleasure, and above all things, full liberty; precious, no doubt, to all men, but priceless in the eyes of the wise man.
So make a new effort of courage, and arrive promptly. You will never regret having seen Gustav's daughter closely. It will be her glory and her happiness to talk and learn with you.
