Le 19. d'Octobre 1668.
Je viens de recevoir votre Lettre du 6. de ce mois, & voyant que les Etats sont toujours constans dans la Résolution que le Recez soit observé en tous ses articles, vous demeurerez aussi ferme là-dessus, & tâcherez d'en avoir les dépêches, & l'exécution. Quant à ceux qui s'opposent à ces favorables dispositions, vous tâcherez de les adoucir le mieux que vous pourrez. Pour l'échange n'en parlez plus, renoncez à cette affaire, car je veux rester dans l'état où je suis présentement, & l'on peut reserver cette négociation pour la premiere Diette.
Ne manquez pas de solliciter l'assignation pour mes prétentions avec la Couronne, selon la spécification que je vous en ai envoyée.
Poussez aussi la Restitution de Padagla selon les ordres de votre Instruction.
Après cela vous devez savoir, que j'ai traité ici avec Jacob Mumma, avec beaucoup de satisfaction; je lui ai donné aussi en arrente la Province d'Oeland, & j'ai réussi à remédier à plusieurs désordres, & fautes, qu'on avoit commises dans le Contract d'Osel & de Gottland. J'ai encore déposé les Gouverneurs de ces deux Provinces, car leur comportement m'a obligé à cette résolution, & j'en ai mis d'autres en leur place, qui me rendront sans-doute meilleur service. Mais il faut que vous assistiez & apportiez vos soins pour prévenir toutes les difficultés que les nouveaux Gouverneurs pourroient trouver en Suède pour l'exécution de mes ordres.
J'ai donné à Mumma une ample & pleine faculté pour exiger tous les restans, & me faire dédommager de tous les préjudices que m'ont fait les Gouverneurs Ribbing & Flemming dans le tems de leur Administration, en quoi vous écouterez ledit Mumma, & lui donnerez toute votre assistance où elle lui sera nécessaire. Vous concerterez aussi avec lui sur l'assignation pour mes prétentions de la Couronne, & suivrez ses conseils en cette affaire.
Je vous envoye ci-joint le Brevet pour Kurque de la Charge de mon Gouverneur-Général; mais il faut bien concerter avec lui sur la maniére de faire savoir au Grand-Trésorier cette résolution; car je voudrois que cela fût de bonne grace, & que le Grand-Trésorier n'en fût pas offensé ni outragé. Vous pouvez lui dire, que voyant que ses occupations ne lui permettent pas de s'appliquer plus long-tems à mes affaires, j'ai cru ne lui faire aucun tort en l'exemtant de la fatigue qu'il se croit obligé de soutenir pour veiller à mes affaires, & que cela n'empêchera point que je ne fasse toujours état de sa personne & de son mérite, & semblables expressions.
Vous recommanderez après toutes mes affaires à Kurque, lui faisant connoître la confiance que j'ai en lui, & lui persuaderez de me venir trouver au Printems, mais qu'il fasse premiérement un tour par les Provinces, pour me faire rapport de tout ce qui se passe.
Au-reste, je suis résolue à partir d'ici pour m'en aller en Italie, voyant que mes affaires me le permettent; ainsi on n'aura plus de soupçons de ma personne en Suède, & on connoîtra que mes intentions sont sincéres, & telles que je les ai toujours déclarées.
Pour vous, après que vous aurez exécuté mes ordres, & achevé parfaitement toutes mes affaires, & que Mumma n'aura plus besoin de votre assistance, venez me trouver à Rome pour me faire la relation de tout; mais ne manquez pas cependant de m'envoyer la Copie des Dépêches aussi-tôt que vous les aurez obtenues. Dieu vous conserve.

Jag har nyss mottagit Ert brev av den 6 av denna månad, och emedan jag ser att Ständerna alltid är ständiga i beslutet, att recessen iakttas i alla dess artiklar, förblir Ni lika fast på detta, och skall försöka få försändelserna och exekution. När det gäller dem som motsätter sig dessa förmånliga bestämmelser, skall Ni försöka mildra dem så gott det går. När det gäller utbytet, tala inte om det mer; ge upp denna affär, ty jag vill förbli i det tillstånd, som jag för närvarande befinner mig i, och vi kan reservera denna förhandling till första Riksdagen.
Se till att söka en stämningsansökan för mina anspråk med Kronan, enligt vad jag har specificerat.
Utför också återställandet av Pudagla enligt Era instruktioner.
Därnäst måste Ni veta, att jag handlat här med Jakob Momma, med stor tillfredsställelse; jag har givit honom också en arrente Öland, och jag lyckats avhjälpa åtskilliga störningar och fel, som hade begåtts i Ösel och Gotlands kontrakt. Jag har återigen avsatt guvernörerna i dessa två provinser, eftersom deras beteende tvingade mig till denna resolution, och jag har satt andra i deras ställe, vilket utan tvivel kommer att göra mig bättre tjänst. Men det är nödvändigt att Ni bistår och tar Er omsorg för att förhindra alla de svårigheter som de nya landshövdingarna kunde finna i Sverige för verkställandet av mina befallningar.
Jag har givit Momma riklig och full makt att kräva alla kvarlevor, och att gottgöra mig för alla skador som gjorts på mig av guvernörerna Ribbing och Fleming under tiden för deras administration, i vilken Ni skall lyssna på ovannämnde Momma, och Ni skall ge honom all Er hjälp där det är honom nödvändigt. Ni skall också konferera med honom om stämningen för mina anspråk på Kronan och följa hans råd i denna fråga.
Jag sänder Er härmed patentet för Kurck från min Generalguvernörs charge; men det är nödvändigt att rådgöra med honom om sättet att tillkännage för Riksskattmästaren denna resolution; ty jag skulle vilja att det skulle vara av god nåd, och att Riksskattmästaren inte skulle bli förolämpad eller upprörd. Ni kan berätta för honom att, eftersom hans yrken inte tillåter honom att längre ägna sig åt min verksamhet, trodde jag att jag inte gjorde honom någon skada genom att befria honom från den trötthet som han anser sig vara skyldig att stödja för att hålla vakt till mina affärer, och att detta ej hindrar mig från att alltid nämna hans person och hans förtjänst och liknande uttryck.
Ni skall sedan rekommendera Kurck alla mina affärer, underrätta honom om det förtroende jag har för honom, och kommer att övertala honom att komma och hitta mig på våren, men låt honom först göra en tur genom provinserna, för att rapportera till mig om allt som försiggår.
Dessutom har jag bestämt mig för att åka härifrån för att åka till Italien, eftersom min verksamhet tillåter mig; sålunda kommer det inte att finnas fler misstankar om min person i Sverige, och det kommer att bli känt att mina avsikter är uppriktiga och sådana som jag alltid har förklarat dem.

October 19, 1668.
I have just received your letter of the 6th of this month, and seeing that the Estates are always constant in the resolution that the recess be observed in all its articles, you will remain as firm on this, and will try to have the despatches and execution. As for those who oppose these favorable provisions, you will try to soften them as best you can. As for the exchange, do not talk about it any more; give up this affair, because I want to remain in the state in which I am at present, and we can reserve this negotiation for the first Riksdag.
Be sure to seek a subpoena for my claims with the Crown, as specified by me.
Push also the restitution of Pudagla according to the orders of your instruction.
After that you must know, that I dealt here with Jakob Momma, with much satisfaction; I also gave him en arrente the province of Öland, and I succeeded in remedying several disorders, and faults, which had been committed in the contract of Ösel and Gotland. I have again deposed the governors of these two provinces, because their behaviour obliged me to this resolution, and I have put others in their place, which will no doubt render me better service. But it is necessary that you assist and bring your care to prevent all the difficulties which the new governors could find in Sweden for the execution of my orders.
I have given Momma ample and full power to demand all remnants, and to indemnify me for all the injuries done to me by Governors Ribbing and Fleming in the time of their administration, in which you will listen to the said Momma, and you will give him all your assistance where it is necessary for him. You will also confer with him on the subpoena for my claims to the Crown, and follow his advice in this matter.
I send you herewith the patent for Kurck of the office of my Governor General; but it is necessary to consult with him on the manner of making known to the Grand Treasurer this resolution; for I would like it to be of good grace, and that the Grand Treasurer should not be offended or outraged. You can tell him that, seeing that his occupations do not allow him to apply himself any longer to my affairs, I thought I was doing him no harm by exonerating him from the fatigue that he believes himself obliged to support to keep watch. to my affairs, and that this will not prevent me from always mentioning his person and his merit, and similar expressions.
You will afterwards recommend all my affairs to Kurck, letting him know the confidence I have in him, and will persuade him to come and find me in the spring, but let him first make a tour through the provinces, to report to me on everything that is happening.
Besides, I have decided to leave here to go to Italy, seeing that my affairs allow me; thus there will be no more suspicions of my person in Sweden, and it will be known that my intentions are sincere, and such as I have always declared them.
As for you, after you have carried out my orders, and completed all my affairs perfectly, and that Mumma will no longer need your assistance, come and find me in Rome to give me the report of everything; but do not fail to send me the copy of the despatches as soon as you have obtained them.
