Varsovie, le 27. Juillet 1668.
Il y a huit jours que j'envoyai à V. M. la premiére Lettre, renfermant tout ce que Monsieur le Nonce m'avoit commandé. Je donne avis à cette heure que Monsieur le Nonce a écrit à Rome de sa propre main, comme à V. M. (parce qu'il ne veut communiquer notre affaire à personne) à Monsieur le Cardinal Azzolino, & par lui à Monsieur le Cardinal Rospigliosi, les informant comment il faut faire de la part de Sa Sainteté, particuliérement pour le Bref Apostolique à la République. Il m'a dit qu'on commence à faire revivre la Faction du Prince de Condé, qui a pour lui l'Archevêque de Gnesne, le Chancelier de Lithuanie, plusieurs Sénateurs qui ont reçu de l'argent François, & presque tous ceux qui vont tenir le parti du Monsieur, seulement en apparence, & qui sont en effet pour le Prince de Condé. Entre autres choses il m'a dit aussi que cette raison, que V. M. ne veut pas se marier, fera le plus contre elle; parce que les Polonois souhaittent à cette heure d'établir la Maison régnante pour avoir toujours des Sujets capables de parvenir à la Couronne, afin de n'en plus chercher ailleurs à l'avenir.
J'ai assisté à une des petites Diettes, où premiérement l'Envoyé de la part du Roi a montré son Instruction, sans parler de la Résignation; après cela on a lu la Lettre de l'Archevêque de Gnesne, où il raconte tout ce qui est arrivé à la derniére Convocation, dans laquelle le Roi a proposé l'Abdication de la Couronne. On a conclu de prier le Roi de ne pas résigner; & s'il ne veut pas satisfaire aux instances des Nonces, qu'alors il résigne, & qu'on change la Diette en Convocation, dans laquelle on réglera le tems pour l'Election. J'ai eu un singulier Discours touchant l'Election future, lequel j'envoyerai par la premiére poste, où V. M. pourra voir les raisons de la République dans cette Election.
Au-reste, parce qu'il n'y a rien à faire à cette heure à Varsovie, comme je l'ai écrit auparavant, du consentement & par le conseil de Monsieur le Nonce je ferai un petit voyage, & des visites chez la Noblesse de ma connoissance, où je remarquerai leurs intentions, & tout ce qu'ils auront établi dans ces petites Diettes. Je ne laisserai pourtant pas passer de poste sans donner avis de quelque chose d'important, & je veux revenir à Varsovie huit jours avant la grande Diette du 27. Août.

Warszawa, den 27 juli 1668.
För åtta dagar sedan skickade jag Ers Majestät det första brevet, innehållande allt som nuntien hade beordrat mig. Jag meddelar vid denna tidpunkt att nuntien har skrivit till Rom med sin egen hand, som till Ers Majestät (ty han inte vill meddela vår affär till någon), till kardinal Azzolino och genom honom till kardinal Rospigliosi, underrättande om hur att agera på uppdrag av Hans Helighet, särskilt för det apostoliska brevet till Republiken. Han berättade för mig att fraktionen av prinsen de Condé börjar återupplivas, som har på sin sida ärkebiskopen av Gnesen, Litauens kansler, flera rådsmän som har fått franska pengar och nästan alla de som kommer att ta parti för herren, bara till utseendet, och de som faktiskt är för prinsen de Condé. Jag hade ett enastående tal angående det framtida valet, som jag vill skicka med den första posten, där Ers Majestät kan se skälen för Republiken i detta val.
Dessutom, eftersom det inte finns något att göra vid denna tidpunkt i Warszawa, som jag skrev förut, med nuntiens samtycke och inrådan från nuntien, vill jag göra en liten resa och besöka mina bekanta i adeln, där jag skall notera deras avsikter och allt som de kommer att ha fastställt i dessa små rådsmöten. Jag skall dock inte låta ett inlägg passera utan att meddela något viktigt, och jag vill återvända till Warszawa en vecka före det stora rådsmötet den 27 augusti.
English translation (my own):
Warsaw, July 27, 1668.
Eight days ago I sent Your Majesty the first letter, containing all that the Nuncio had ordered me. I give notice at this time that the Nuncio has written to Rome with his own hand, as to Your Majesty (because he does not want to communicate our affair to anyone), to Cardinal Azzolino, and through him to Cardinal Rospigliosi, informing them how to act on behalf of His Holiness, especially for the apostolic brief to the Republic. He told me that the faction of the Prince of Condé is starting to be revived, which has on his side the Archbishop of Gnesen, the Chancellor of Lithuania, several senators who have received French money, and almost all those who will take the side of the gentleman, only in appearance, and those who are in fact for the Prince de Condé. Among other things, he also told me that this reason, that Your Majesty does not want to marry, will do the most against you, because the Poles wish at this time to establish the reigning house to always have subjects capable of reaching the Crown, in order not to seek any more elsewhere in the future.
I attended one of the small council meetings, where first the envoy from the King showed his instruction, not to speak of resignation; after that the letter of the Archbishop of Gnesen was read, in which he recounts all that happened at the last convocation, in which the King proposed the abdication of the Crown. It was concluded to beg the King not to resign; and if he does not want to satisfy the requests of the nuncios, then he should resign, and the council meeting should be changed to a convocation, in which the time for the election will be regulated. I had a singular speech touching the future election, which I will send by the first post, where Your Majesty can see the reasons of the Republic in this election.
Besides, since there is nothing to do at this hour in Warsaw, as I wrote before, with the consent and by the advice of the Nuncio I will make a little journey and visits to my acquaintances in the nobility, where I will take note of their intentions, and all that they will have established in these small council meetings. However, I will not let a post pass without giving notice of something important, and I want to return to Warsaw a week before the great council meeting of August 27th.
