Ayant été avertie ces deux jours de poste de Rome, des ordres favorables & efficaces qui vous ont été expédiés pour l'affaire en question, je suis bien aise que vous ayez été mis par-là en état d'étaler votre capacité pour la conduire au but où l'on vise, vous assurant que si Dieu veut qu'il soit en mon pouvoir d'accomplir la promesse que le Cardinal Azzolino vous a faite, je ne manquerai ni en cela, ni en aucune autre rencontre quelconque où il s'agira de votre avantage, & de vous témoigner efficacement ma reconnoissance.
Je ne doute point que le Pére Prieur ne vous ait communiqué mes deux Ecrits, qui vous auront fait connoître mes idées au sujet des deux obstacles du sexe & du mariage. Je vous les déduirai plus amplement dans ma prochaine Lettre, me persuadant que mon chiffre, qui vous fut envoyé il y a huit jours, vous sera parvenu en bon état.
Le Seigneur Cardinal Azzolino a jugé à propos que j'écrivisse des Lettres au Roi Casimir, à l'Archevêque de Gnesne, & à d'autres, avec instances que je vinsse en considération à la prochaine Election. Cependant, étant informée, comme je le suis, de l'état des affaires, je ne l'estime ni convenable, ni nécessaire; car si j'écris au Roi, il ne se pourroit que l'affaire ne fût aussitôt renduë publique, ce qui n'aboutiroit à rien: car je sai qu'il ne veut proposer personne, & que les Polonois n'y déféreroient pas, quand même il le voudroit. Pour l'Archevêque, comme il est de la Faction Françoise, il me traverseroit plutôt qu'il ne me favoriseroit, desorte que je me flatte que vous, qui êtes sur les lieux, approuverez mon idée: outre que je veux rester ferme dans ma premiére résolution, de ne vouloir pas passer par d'autres mains que par celles de Sa Sainteté: & si ses offices efficaces ne suffisent pas au succès de cette Négociation, je regarderai toujours comme très-glorieux pour moi de les avoir reçus de la générosité d'un si digne Pontife. C'est aussi pour cela, que quand même vous verriez que le succès de cette tentative seroit inutile, vous pourriez pourtant, avec l'agrément de Sa Sainteté, en faire la proposition en tems & lieu. Je déclare toujours que j'en serai très-contente pour en tirer, sinon aucun autre honneur, au-moins celui d'avoir été favorisée de Sa Sainteté. Mais je vous prie de ne pas me découvrir, ni de parler de moi avant que l'Abdication soit faite, & que vous le jugiez convenable. Cependant vous pourriez, si vous le voulez bien, par votre dextérité, faire accrocher le dessein des autres Prétendans, sans pourtant parler de moi que quand il en sera tems.

Efter att ha informerats under dessa två dagar genom posten från Rom om de gynnsamma och effektiva befallningar som har skickats till Er för affären i fråga, är jag mycket glad att Ni har försatts av detta i en position att visa Er förmåga att genomföra den, och försäkrar Er att om Gud vill att det skall stå i min makt att uppfylla det löfte som kardinal Azzolino har gett Er, skall jag inte misslyckas i detta eller i något annat möte där det kommer att agera till Er fördel, och att uttrycka min tacksamhet till Er effektivt.
Jag tvivlar inte på att fadern prior förmedlade er mina två skrifter, vilka kommer att ha gjort er kända för Er mina idéer i ämnet de två hindren av kön och äktenskap. Jag skall härleda Er dem mer fullständigt i mitt nästa brev och övertyga mig själv om att min figur, som skickades till Er för en vecka sedan, kommer att ha nått Er i gott skick.

Having been informed during these two days by the post from Rome of the favourable and effective orders which have been sent to you for the affair in question, I am very glad that you have been put by this in a position to display your capacity to conduct it, assuring you that if God wills it to be in my power to fulfill the promise that Cardinal Azzolino has made to you, I will not fail in this or in any other meeting where it is will act to your advantage, and to express my gratitude to you effectively.
I do not doubt that the Father Prior communicated to you my two writings, which will have made known to you my ideas on the subject of the two obstacles of sex and marriage. I will deduce them to you more fully in my next letter, persuading myself that my figure, which was sent to you a week ago, will have reached you in good condition.
The Lord Cardinal Azzolino has seen fit that I write letters to King Kazimir, the Archbishop of Gnesen, and others, with entreaties that I come into consideration at the next election. However, being informed, as I am, of the state of affairs, I consider it neither proper nor necessary; for if I write to the King, it could not happen that the affair would not be immediately made public, which would come to nothing, because I know that he does not want to propose anyone, and that the Poles would not defer to it, even if he wanted to. As for the Archbishop, as he is of the French faction, he would cross me rather than favour me, so that I flatter myself that you, who are on the spot, will approve of my idea, besides that I want to remain firm in my first resolution, not to want to pass through other hands than those of His Holiness; and if his effective offices are not sufficient for the success of this negotiation, I will always consider it very glorious for me to have received them from the generosity of such a worthy pontiff. This is also why, even if you see that the success of this attempt would be useless, you could nevertheless, with the agreement of His Holiness, make the proposal in due time. I always declare that I will be very happy to derive from it, if not any other honour, at least that of having been favoured by His Holiness. But I beg you not to discover me, nor to speak of me before the abdication is done, and that you judge it suitable. In the meantime, you could, if you wish, by your dexterity, hook the design of the other pretenders, but without speaking of me until the time is right.
