Pour Rosenbac, le 21 Septembre 1668.
Je vous envoye ici le Double de toutes les dépêches que j'ai données avant-hier à Leioncrone pour vous, par lesquelles vous verrez quelles sont mes derniéres volontés pour l'Echange, & je vous envoye un pleinpouvoir pour traiter & conclure cette affaire, pourvu que l'on vous accorde toutes les conditions que je propose, desquelles je ne veux absolument pas démordre; car à moins de cela j'aime mieux laisser mes intérêts dans l'état où ils sont à-présent, & c'est ma derniére résolution. Si on le veut ainsi, vous pouvez conclure toujours sous ma Ratification; & si l'on vouloit envoyer ici dérechef d'autres personnes pour traiter avec moi-même de cette affaire, faites-leur entendre qu'ils ne feront rien que perdre inutilement du tems; car on me trouvera toujours ferme & constante dans la même volonté, que je vous ai déclarée; & quand on m'envoyeroit ici tout le Sénat de Suède ensemble, ils ne me feront point changer de résolution. Faites-vous bien entendre sur ce chapitre, car absolument je ne veux entendre ni écouter personne qui me parle de cette affaire. Je me suis assez déclarées, qu'ils traitent avec vous, qui avez la faculté spéciale pour la conclusion de cet Echange sous les conditions que je vous envoye.
Il ne faut témoigner aucun empressement, ni envie de l'Echange, mais seulement leur faire comprendre qu'il est de la bienséance du Roi, qu'il se fasse de la maniére que je l'ai projetté, & qu'il m'est du tout impossible de l'accepter de la maniére qu'on me l'a proposé.
Ne manquez pas aussi en même tems, de pousser avec vigueur mes prétentions selon la spécification que je vous en ai envoyée dans mes précédentes, car je prévois que l'impossibilité de me satisfaire, les obligera enfin d'accepter mes propositions.
Je vous ai dit autrefois de prendre l'Assignation, de l'argent qu'on me voudra donner pour mes prétentions, sur la Hollande; mais ayant su à cette heure qu'il n'est pas encore établi si elle donnera de l'argent à la Suède ou non, il faut que vous prenez bien garde de ne me pas procurer cette Assignation si elle n'est pas assurée.
Je vois par votre Lettre du 8. de ce Mois, qu'on a différé la Diette jusqu'au retour de Leioncrone, qui est parti d'ici hier au matin avec dessein d'arriver à Stockholm dans neuf jours; aussi-tôt qu'il sera arrivé, ou que vous aurez reçu ses dépêches, ne perdez pas un moment de tems, & tâchez au nom de Dieu d'obtenir vos expéditions au plutôt; car je n'attends autre chose pour partir, que de savoir qu'elle soit entre vos mains signée du Roi & des Etats solemnellement, & j'attendrai cette nouvelle ici de pied ferme, jusqu'à ce que je l'aurai reçue à mon compte, ce sera pour le 15. ou 20. d'Octobre au plus tard.
Donnez-vous pourtant bien de garde que la Diete ne se finisse, avant que vous ayez obtenu toutes vos Dépêches signées; car après la Diéte finie il n'y a rien à espérer pour moi, & s'il vous est nécessaire, tâchez de la faire prolonger par quelque intrigue qui ne vous manquera pas, afin de pouvoir achever bien & parfaitement toutes vos affaires selon mes ordres précédens. Soyez donc bien vigilant en cela, ne vous laissez pas tromper & ne vous fiez pas aux promesses ni aux belles paroles qu'on vous donnera; car autrement tout seroit perdu. Aussi-tôt que vous aurez entre vos mains les Dépêches signées, envoyez-moi la Copie de tout pour gagner du tems, par un homme exprès, qui marche jour & nuit en toute diligence; faites choix d'un homme qui que ce soit, mais d'une bonne haleine, qui puisse vitement courir; & pour éviter les instances que Broberg, ou d'autres gens de cette sorte plus délicats vous pourroient faire pour me porter ces nouvelles, dépêchez l'homme secrétement, & faites-le tenir prêt par avance, lui promettant une récompense digne de sa diligence, & marquez sur sa Dépêche l'heure de son départ de Stockholm.
Pour les Originaux, gardez-les auprès de vous pour me les apporter vous-même.
Sur-tout il m'importe d'avoir vitement l'avis de la Conclusion de l'affaire de la Religion signée comme il faut, en envoyant seulement la Copie du Décret; ne me la retardez pas d'un seul moment pour attendre l'établissement des autres points; car ce seroit me mettre au désespoir de me la retarder. J'attends ce service de votre zéle; mais pour vous, ne partez pas de Stockholm jusqu'à ce que vous ayez obtenu l'entiére & parfaite exécution de tout ce qu'on m'aura promit.
Quelqu'un qui prétend être bien informé, m'écrit par cet ordinaire, qu'on a voulu changer quelque chose dans l'affaire de la Religion. Je ne saurois le croire, puisque vous ne m'en dites rien; mais prenez-y garde, & tenez-vous rigoureusement aux points du projet que vous m'avez envoyé & que j'ai accepté. Je les ai engagés d'une maniére que j'espére qu'ils ne m'échapperont pas.
J'ai su de Leioncrone, que Bielke a fait beaucoup pour moi, & je le crois; car comme il est ennemi du Grand-Chancelier, 495800770584 il aura pris mon parti pour s'opposer à lui; néanmoins ne laissez pas de vous en informer pour savoir la vérité.
J'ai donné à Leioncrone quelque ordre de bouche sur la personne du Docteur Matthias, lui ayant ordonné de vous le communiquer & de conférer avec vous, & même d'en parler au Grand-Chancelier, espérant de pouvoir réussir en ce que je lui ai dit de cet homme selon les ordres que je vous ai donnés. Au-reste vous voyez le pouvoir que l'éloquence de Leioncrone a eu sur moi, & j'avoue que l'on me fait grand tort de se persuader qu'un tel homme puisse disposer de moi. C'est à vous seul que j'ai donné entiére confiance & pouvoir, car votre maniére de procéder me plaît, & je suis entiérement persuadée de votre zéle & fidélité. La fin couronne l'œuvre; mais vous avez à faire à d'étranges gens; prenez garde à vous, sur-tout n'acceptez jamais plus aucune proposition d'eux, qu'elle ne soit signée par la Régence avant que de me l'envoyer; car il ne se faut jamais fier à leur parole, sur-tout, 2102264407705826115984 l'ame qui gouverne tout. Jag har förklarat mig nog att de behandlar med Er, som har den särskilda förmågan att avsluta detta utbyte under de villkor som jag skickar till Er.
Ni får inte visa någon iver eller önskan efter utbytet, utan bara få dem att förstå att det är i Konungens anständighet, att det sker på det sätt som jag har planerat det och att han alls är omöjligt att acceptera det i hur det erbjöds mig.
Misslyckas inte också att samtidigt kraftfullt driva mina anspråk enligt den specifikation som jag skickade till Er i mina tidigare brev, eftersom jag förutser att omöjligheten att tillfredsställa mig slutligen kommer att tvinga dem att acceptera mina förslag.
Jag sade till Er förut att ta uppdraget, om de pengar som man vill ge mig för mina anspråk, på Holland; men efter att ha vetat vid denna tid, att det ännu inte är utrett, huruvida det kommer att ge pengar till Sverige eller inte, måste Ni akta Er för att inte skaffa mig denna stämning, om den inte är säker.
Jag ser av Ert brev av den 8 denna månad att Riksdagen är uppskjuten till Leijoncronas återkomst, som i går morse reste härifrån i avsikt att om nio dagar ankomma till Stockholm; så fort han anländer, eller Ni tar emot hans depescher, förlora inte ett ögonblick av tid, och försök i Guds namn att få Era depescher så snart som möjligt, för jag väntar inte på att något annat skall gå, utan att veta att det är i Era händer och högtidligt undertecknat av Konungen och Ständerna; och jag avvaktar denna nyhet här med fast fot tills jag fått den för egen räkning, det blir senast den 15 eller 20 oktober.
Se dock väl till, att Riksdagen ej slutar, innan Ni fått alla Era depescher undertecknade; ty efter Riksdagen finns intet att hoppas för mig, och om det är nödvändigt för Er, försök att förlänga det med någon intriger, som Ni inte kommer att missa, för att kunna fullfölja alla Era ärenden väl och fullkomligt enligt min tidigare befallning. Så var mycket vaksam i detta, låt Er inte luras och lita inte på löften eller fina ord som ges till Er, annars skulle allt gå förlorat. Så snart Ni har de undertecknade försändelserna i Era händer, skicka mig kopian av allt för att spara tid, av en speciell man som går dag och natt med all flit. Välj vilken man som helst, men en gode som kan springa snabbt; och för att undvika de bön, som Broberg eller andra ömtåligare personer av den sorten kan komma till Er att förmedla denna nyhet till mig, sänd mannen i hemlighet och bered honom i förväg, lovande honom en belöning värdig hans flit, och markera på hans avsändande tidpunkten för hans avresa från Stockholm.
