Marchese. Jo vi dò parte della morte del Monaldeschi che tradiua mè, e voleua farmi credere, che voi foste il Traditore. Jo che haueua tutti li rincontri in contrario, non hò voluto farui torto in creder di voi l'infamità delle quale io non poteuo immaginarmi capace altri che lui mi é conuenuto vn pezzo dissimulare di credere quello, che lui voleua darmi ad intendere, p[er]che cosi conueniua p[e]r giustificar voi e punir lui, è poi finalm[en]te morto, confessando la sua infamità e la vostrà innocenza, monstrando d'havere inuentate tutte le sue cabale, solo p[e]r perdere voi. Specchiateui in questo essempio, e pregati Dio, che non vi leui il ceruello, nè l'honore operate sempre da galant huomo, ne fatte mai attione, che sia indigna di questo bel carattere. Non vi affaticate in giustificare la mia attione appresso nessuno; Jo non pretendo di darne conto ad'altro che à Dio, il quale mi hauerebbe punito se havessi perdonato al traditore il suo enormo delitto. Men jag måste en lång tid tro det som han ville låta mig förstå, emedan det så var nödvändigt, för att rättfärdiga Eder och straffa honom. Slutligen har han dött under bekännelsen af sin nedrighet och af Eder oskuld, i det han tillstått sig hafva uppfunnit alla sina cabaler för att skada Eder. Spegla Eder i detta exempel, och bed Gud, att han icke beröfvar Eder förståndet; handla alltid såsom hederlig man, och begå alldrig en gerning, ovärdig denna vackra charakter. I send you the relation of the death of Monaldeschi, who betrayed me and wanted to make me believe that you were the traitor; me, who had evidence to the contrary! I did not want to do you the injustice of believing in a humiliation of which I could not imagine anyone but him being capable. But I must for a long time believe what he wanted me to understand, because it was so necessary to justify you and punish him. In the end, he has died in the confession of his vileness and of your innocence, in that he confessed to having invented all his cabals to harm you. Reflect on this example, and pray to God that He does not deprive you of understanding. Always conduct yourself as an honest man, and never commit a deed unworthy of this beautiful character. Do not make any effort to justify my action to anyone, since I do not intend to answer to anyone other than God alone, who would have punished me if I had forgiven the traitor his immense crimes. My conscience bears witness to me that I have acted according to divine and human justice, and I could not and should not act differently; this is all I can tell you. Be in good spirits, while I shall endeavour to give you what you desire, and live assured that I will take your defense from everyone.

Puis il est enfin mort, confessant son infamie et votre innocence, montrant qu'il a inventé toutes ses cabales seulement pour vous perdre.
Réfléchissez-vous à cet exemple et priez Dieu de ne pas vous priver de votre cerveau ni de votre honneur. Agissez toujours en homme galant; ne faites jamais rien qui soit indigne de ce beau caractère. Ne vous vous fatiguez pas à justifier mon action auprès de qui que ce soit. Then he is finally dead, confessing his infamy and your innocence, showing that he invented all his cabals only to lose you.
Mirror yourself in this example, and pray to God that you do not take away your brain, nor your honour. Always act as a gallant man; do not ever do anything that is unworthy of this beautiful character. Do not bother justifying my action to anyone. I do not pretend to account for it to anyone other than God, who would have punished me if I had forgiven the traitor his enormous crime. And that is enough for you. I know in my conscience that I have acted according to divine and human justice, and that I could not and should not have done otherwise.
This is all I can say. Remain cheerfully while I labour to give you that consolation you have desired; and live assured that I will take your side.
