En ce qui concerne le mariage brandebourgeois, Nous pensons qu'il serait bon que vous communiquiez un peu plus étroitement avec les conditions brandebourgeoises pour une telle union, car Nous vous avons donné Notre avis à ce sujet de bouche, à propos duquel Nous serions également ravis que vous rédigiez vous-même des instructions.
Et si Nous estimons donc que le plus important consiste à savoir comment la Couronne de Suède, pour sauver la majesté et la liberté du royaume, à défaut de Notre progéniture mâle, avec la Maison de Brandebourg et toutes les terres que Nous pourrions conquérir ici, devaient être conjugués par le même mariage, de sorte que, bien que chacun conserve séparément la loi et le droit, néanmoins tout devait devenir un seul corps et dépendre d'un seul chef; et si Dieu Nous a bénis avec des héritiers mâles, que si ce prince conserve Notre droit de guerre ici et que si Notre fille le maintient ici, de la même manière que les filles royales espagnoles règnent aux Pays-Bas; et si Dieu Nous accorde quelques fils, que ce prince et Notre fille puissent toujours jouir dans ces terres occupées du droit et de la prérogative les plus importants et les meilleurs sur Nos autres fils. Our especial [favour], etc. ... As far as the Brandenburg marriage is concerned, We think it would be good for you to communicate a little more closely with the Brandenburg conditions for such a union, as We have given you Our opinion about it by mouth, about which We would also gladly see that you write an instruction yourself.
And if We hold therefore that the most important thing consists in it, how the Crown of Sweden, to save the majesty and liberty of the kingdom, failing Our male offspring, with the House of Brandenburg and all the lands that we could win here, had to be conjugated through the same marriage, so that, although each would separately retain law and right, nevertheless everything must become one corpus together and depend on one head; and if God blessed us with heirs male, that if this prince stays by Our right of war out here and that if Our daughter maintains it rightly out here in such a way as the Spanish royal daughters in the Netherlands rule; and if God grants Us some sons, that this prince with Our daughter may always enjoy in these occupied lands the foremost and best right and prerogative over Our other sons. However, that it must be set as a foundation for everything that he must be disciplined in Our Lutheran religion and at home in Sweden and, if any changes in his religion were made, that then this alliance would thereby be violated and annulled by him, as We Ourself have mentioned this to you in more detail, and you could write it better in the instruction. ...
