Kristina's letter to Harald Appelboom concerning the buying of the late Gerardus Vossius' library, dated April 28/May 8 (Old Style), 1649

Christina etc. Wår Ÿnest etc. Efftersom Haraldh Appelbohm, Wij hafwe resolverat till at Köpa framledne Wossij Bibliothek, och låte dhet hijt öfwerföra; Hwarföre ähr här medh Wår nådige willie och befallning, at J medh hans effterlåthne Enckia om Prijset handle och sluthe, låtandes Oß strax ther på weta Hwadh prijset ähr, då J skohle få anordning på penningar at dhe richtigt betahlas skole; Och sedan J medh Enckian Köpet slutet hafwe, hafwa J till att inpacka böckerne vtj goda faat och sedan hijt öfwer Siöledes till Oß dem försände. Härvtinnan warde i görandes Eder flijt; och Wij befalle etc.

Vår ynnest, etc. Eftersom, Harald Appelboom, Vi have resolverat till att köpa framlidne Vossii bibliotek och låta det hitöver föra, varföre är härmed Vår nådiga vilje och befallning att I med hans efterlåtna änka om priset handle och slute, låtandes Oss strax därpå veta vad priset är; då I skola få anordning på penningar att de riktigt betalas skola. Och sedan I med änkan köpet slutit hava, hava I till att inpacka böckerna uti goda fat och sedan hitöver sjöledes till Oss dem försända. Härutinnan varda I görandes Eder flit, och Vi befalle, etc.

Notre faveur, etc. Parce que, Hérault Appelboom, Nous avons résolu d'acheter la bibliothèque de feu Vossius et de la laisser être envoyée ici, c'est donc et par la présente Notre gracieuse volonté et Notre ordre que vous et sa veuve affligée concluiez un accord et une conclusion concernant le prix, Nous faisant savoir immédiatement après quel est le prix; alors vous recevrez des arrangements pour que l'argent soit correctement payé. Et une fois que vous et la veuve aurez terminé l'achat, vous devrez emballer les livres dans de bons tonneaux et Nous les envoyer ensuite par voie maritime. Vous agirez avec diligence dans les présentes, et Nous vous recommandons, etc.

English translation (my own):

Kristina, etc.

Our favour, etc. Whereas, Harald Appelboom, We have resolved to buy the late Vossius' library and let it be sent over here, it is therefore and hereby Our gracious will and command that you and his left-behind widow deal and conclude about the price, letting Us know immediately afterwards what the price is; then you will receive arrangements for money so that it will be properly paid. And after you and the widow have finished the purchase, you have to wrap the books in good barrels and then send them to Us by sea. You will act diligently herein, and We commend you, etc.

Note: Gerardus Vossius had passed away on March 17, 1649. His widow was Elisabeth du Jon, his second wife, who he married in 1607. In the next few years, one of their six sons, Isaac, would come to be a very important person in Kristina's life and at court.
