Mon Cousin. J'ai reçu la votre du 4me Juillet & ce que Vous me mandez touchant la somme que Vous doit mon Sécrétaire Davisson. Sur quoi je Vous puis dire, qu'après lui en avoir parlé, j'ai trouvé en lui une promtitude à vous la païer si grande, que je ne doute nullement qu'il ne vous eut déja satisfait, s'il eut eu des moïens pour le faire, lesquels je lui faciliterai d'autant plus, que je desire que vous aïez satisfaction au plûtôt, & pourvoirai à son établissement ensorte qu'il lui sera plus aisé de vous contenter, qu'il ne lui a été par le passé. Il Vous plaira donc d'avoir encore quelque patience & de vous assurer que vous en serez entièrement satisfait. Je vous en veux être caution. Quant à l'excuse que Vous me faites d'avoir fait citer ledit Davisson devant le Tribunal de Suède, je la reçois comme une preuve du respect que vous me portez & je veux croire après tant de marques que vous m'en avez données, que vous n'eussiez pas voulu y manquer, si vous eussiez été informé qu'il étoit à mon service. Au reste soïez assuré que je vous ferai avoir satisfaction & que je Vous donnerai des marques de l'amitié, dont je fais profession envers Vous, quand les occasions se présenteront de Vous faire voir que je suis

Jag mottog Ert brev av den 4 juli och vad Ni säger mig angående det belopp som min sekreterare Davisson är skyldig Er; på vilken kan jag säga Er att jag, efter att ha talat med honom om det, fann i honom en sådan snabbhet att betala Er det att jag inte tvivlar på att han redan skulle ha tillfredsställt Er om han hade haft medel för att göra det, vilket jag skall underlätta för honom desto mer, eftersom jag önskar att Ni tidigast skall få tillfredsställelse, och skall sörja för dess inrättande så att det blir lättare för honom att tillfredsställa Er än han har gjort tidigare. Det skulle därför glädja Er att ha lite tålamod och se till att Ni kommer att vara helt nöjd med honom. Jag klandrar Er för att Ni är en borgensman. Vad beträffar den ursäkt Ni ger mig för att ha kallat nämnde Davisson inför Sveriges hov, så mottar jag den som bevis på den respekt Ni har för mig, och jag vill tro, efter så många betygelser som Ni har givit mig, att Ni skulle inte ha velat missa det om Ni hade blivit informerad om att han var i min tjänst. Bortsett från detta, var säker på att jag kommer att ge Er tillfredsställelse och att jag skall ge Er tecken på vänskap, som jag bekänner mot Er, när möjligheter uppstår att visa Er att jag är,

My Cousin,
I received your letter of July 4th and what you tell me concerning the sum owed to you by my secretary Davisson; on which I can tell you that, after having spoken to him about it, I found in him such a promptitude to pay it to you that I have no doubt that he would have already satisfied you if he had had means for doing so, which I will facilitate him all the more, as I desire that you have satisfaction at the earliest, and will provide for its establishment so that it will be easier for him to satisfy you than he has done before. It would therefore please you to have some patience and ensure that you will be completely satisfied with him. I blame you for being a surety. As for the excuse you make me for having summoned the said Davisson before the Court of Sweden, I receive it as proof of the respect you have for me, and I want to believe, after so many marks that you have given me, that you would not have wanted to miss it if you had been informed that he was in my service. Aside from this, be assured that I will give you satisfaction and that I will give you marks of friendship, which I profess towards you, when the opportunities arise to show you that I am,
