Literæ Dilect. Tuæ heri mihi allatæ sunt. Valitudinem Tuam gratulor & a Deo optimo Maximo precor ut Dilect: Tuam diu salvam & incolumem conservare dignetur. Præterea ex literis Dilect. Tuæ quas a Domino Salvio scriptas inlexi, cognovi Avunculum meum in mente agitasse obsidere Rigam, quod inceptum per Dei gratiam impeditum est. Gubernator, ubi audivit hostem advenire congregatis militibus obviam ivit hostibus, victoribus nostris, & captivi capti inter quos erat Stritzloph, quem Aociæ admiserant ut Rigenses explorarent omnia ab illo & propter quam causam illud bellum inceptum esset, an spoliandi causa, an ut potirent Livoniam & postea hic venirent aut ob aliam rem. Sérénissime Prince, mon très-cher Cousin. La lettre de Votre Dilection me fut rendue hier. Je vous félicite de votre bonne santé, & je prie le Tout-puissant de nous conserver long-tems en cet état Votre Dilection. J'ai appris d'ailleurs par la lettre de Votre Dilection, laquelle le Sieur Salvius a écrite, que mon Oncle pensoit à assieger Riga, & que par la grace de Dieu cette entreprise avoit été empêchée. Le Gouverneur aïant appris que l'Ennemi arrivoit, assembla ses Soldats & marcha à sa rencontre. Les nôtres aïant remporté la victoire, firent des prisonniers, du nombre desquels se trouva Stritzloph, qu'on envoïa à Aocie, afin que ceux de Riga pussent découvrir par son moïen pourquoi on avoit commencé cette guerre, si c'étoit à dessein de piller, ou bien de se rendre maître de la Livonie, & de venir ensuite ici, ou pour autre chose? Enfin je prie Votre Dilection de vouloir venir ici dans peu de jours. I går fick jag Eders Kärlighets bref. Det fägnar mig, at I mån wäl, och beder jag Gud, at han länge täckes bewara Ed. Kärlighet wid en god hälsa. Utom des har jag förnummit af Ed. Kärlighets bref, som Herr Salvius skrifwit, at min Morbroder haft i sinnet at belägra Riga, men hwilket dock genom Guds Nåd blifwit förhindrat. Ståthållaren, då han fick weta fiendens ankomst, församlade genast sina Troppar och gik fienden til mötes. Wåra wunno och togo Stritzloph til fånga, som man skickat til Aocien, på det Rigaboerne utaf honom måtte få weta orsaken til detta kriget, och om det upkommit af lystnad til at härja eller inkräkta Lifland och sedan komma hit öfwer, eller eliest af andra orsaker. I received Your Lovingness's letter yesterday. I congratulate you on your good health, and I ask the Almighty to keep Your Lovingness in this state for us for a long time. I learned, moreover, from Your Lovingness's letter, which Sir Salvius wrote, that my uncle was thinking of besieging Riga, and that, by the grace of God, this enterprise had been prevented. The Governor, having learned that the enemy was arriving, assembled his soldiers and marched to meet him. Our soldiers, having won the victory, took prisoners, among whom was Stritzloph, who was sent to Aocie, so that those of Riga could discover by his means why this war was started, if it was on purpose to pillage, or to become master of Livonia, and then come here, or for something else?
