Stormäcktigste Konung, Högtärade Käre Herr Broder. Jag hafwer för detta i wänlighet Eders Kongl. Mayt. insinuerat det upsåt Jag fattat hafwer, min lifstid utom Lands at tilbringa: Och såsom de skäl Jag dertil hafwer, icke kunna vara mindre förswarlige, än min absence E. K. Mt. och Sweriges Crono nyttig, när man alla saker wil betänckia; Altså twiflar iag fuller intet, at Eders Kongl. Et comme les raisons qui m'ont porté à prendre cette résolution, ne peuvent être moins valables, que mon absence sera utile à Votre Majesté & à la Couronne de Suède; je ne doute nullement que V. M. n'y donne une interprétation favorable. Mais comme je m'imagine en même tems, que les Etats du Roïaume de Suède, & surtout ceux, qui ne savent pas approfondir, que je me suis retirée du païs plûtôt pour le bien du Roïaume que pour mon propre contentement, s'en formeront des idées étranges & en tiendront des discours différens. Ainsi je prie amiablement V. Most powerful King, my most honoured and dear brother*,
In the past, I amicably insinuated to Your Majesty the plan I have formed of spending my life in foreign lands. And as the reasons which led me to take this resolution cannot be less valid, that my absence will be useful to Your Majesty and to the Crown of Sweden, I have no doubt that Your Majesty gives it a favourable interpretation. But as I imagine at the same time that the Estates of the Kingdom of Sweden, and especially those which do not know how to think deeply that I withdrew from the country rather for the good of the kingdom than for my own satisfaction, are forming strange ideas and speak differently about them, I therefore kindly request Your Majesty, who knows this matter better, to wish in this case to plead in my favour, and to keep this correspondence itself, as well as all the Estates of the Kingdom, fully assured that although I find myself outside the kingdom, I will not be less bound by what I have promised verbally and in writing than if I am in the country, and it will never be heard that I have undertaken anything which may cause injury, damage or dishonour to Your Majesty, to the Crown of Sweden, or to its inhabitants, but that I will try in every encounter and with all my power to behave towards Your Majesty and them so as to always be able to bear with honour the name of having been Queen of Sweden. This is what I ask Your Majesty, that it pleases you to want to show those who could think or judge of the life that I lead now, otherwise, than I have deserved it, or that they should not do it. I beg moreover, Your Majesty to be assured of my person, as I have just indicated to it, that may it please you to maintain for me, in my absence, the domains and the revenues for my maintenance, which are assigned and transferred to me, by virtue of of the recess and the agreed convention. I have previously amicably insinuated to Your Royal Majesty the intention I have taken to spend my lifetime abroad; and as the reasons I have for this could not be less defensible than my absence, which is useful to Your Royal Majesty and the Crown of Sweden when one wants to consider all things, so I do not doubt that Your Royal Majesty yourself will not interpret such things in the best way; but as I can well think that the Estates of the Kingdom of Sweden — and particularly those who cannot bear to consider that I have left the country more for the good of the kingdom than for my own contentment — will have strange thoughts in addition to such and will conduct various discourses about it, so my affectionate request is that Your Royal Majesty, who better knows the nature of the matter, will in such a case take my side and assure yourself, as well as all the Estates of the Realm, completely and certainly that although I am outside the kingdom, I will still keep what I have promised by mouth and in writing no less than if I were in the country, and it will never be felt that I should undertake anything that could be of prejudice, harm or dishonour to Your Royal Majesty, to the Crown of Sweden or to its inhabitants, but I will in every way and according to possibility so endeavour to comport myself towards Your Royal Majesty and them that I shall always be able to bear with honour the name of having been the Queen of Sweden.
