Posted on January 14, 2024 to coincide with another historic abdication of a Scandinavian queen regnant: After a 52 year reign, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has abdicated today in favour of her son, who is now King Frederik X. May she have a peaceful retirement and he a happy reign!

La Reine Christine par vne action du tout extraordinaire, plus facile à raconter qu'à imiter, ayant porté la couronne de Suede si éclattante & accruë par les beaux exploits du grand Gustave son Pere quelques années, la posa au mois de Iuin, en presence des Estats du Royaume, sur la teste de son Cousin le Roy Charles, & aprés cette ceremonie elle partit de Stokolm pour Hambourg. «Nostre siecle ne produit que des prodiges & des miracles! les vns perdent les diademes par force, & les autres de leur bon gré.»
With modernised spelling:
La reine Christine, par une action du tout extraordinaire, plus facile à raconter qu'à imiter, ayant porté la couronne de Suède si éclatante et accrue par les beaux exploits du grand Gustave son père quelques années, la posa au mois de juin, en presence des États du Royaume, sur la tête de son cousin le roi Charles, et après cette ceremonie elle partit de Stockholm pour Hambourg.

Swedish translation (my own):
Drottning Kristina, genom en alldeles utomordentlig handling, lättare att återberätta än att efterlikna, efter att ha burit Sveriges krona så bländande och ökat av den store Gustavs stora bedrifter, hennes far, under flera år, placerade den i juni månad, i Rikets Ständers närvaro på sin kusin konung Karls huvud, och efter denna ceremoni lämnade hon Stockholm för Hamburg.

English translation (my own):
