Non anderem Regiæ sua Majestati scribere, nisi tuæ cohortatione ad id faciendum inflammarer. Quocirca rogandus mihi es, ne graveris hasce inclusas R. S. M:ti afferre. Argumentum scriptionis, ut opinor, illi non displicebit, tum quod in sapientiæ studio tractando jam versetur, tum quod hanc materiam accomodatam præsenti tempori existimaverim. Quod si vero verbum aliquot nimis insolens esse tenerrimis auribus videatur, id mihi negotiorum mole gravato excidisse putabis. Ubi commodior oblata fuerit vel occasio, vel materia, ita, Te potissimum monente, me in posterum geram, ut τό πρέποι observasse videas. Maxime & ante omnia reficior Regiæ suæ Majestatis benignitate, qua nos suos clientes & subditos complectitur, quam totius vitæ decursu promtissimis servitiorum generibus humillime demereri conabimur. Filius Benedictus non ita pridem ex urbe Masiliensi ad me scribit, se quidem sanitati restitutum in Sveciam properare comitatum D:no Gustavo Hornio, cujus adventus tum ad Regem Galliæ Narbonæ residentem nunciabatur; verum cupere antea quatuordecim dies aquis acidulis impendere, quo futuris & redeuntibus, quod Deus avertat, morbis, omnis materiæ præcidatur. Je n'écrirais rien d'autre à Sa Majesté Royale si je n'y étais pas poussé par vos encouragements. Je vous prie donc de ne pas vous sentir obligé de lui remettre ces documents ci-joints. Le sujet de la lettre, crois-je, ne lui déplaira pas, à la fois parce qu'elle est déjà occupée à discuter de l'étude de la sagesse et parce que j'ai considéré que ce sujet était approprié pour le moment.
Mais si ce mot paraît trop étrange à certains pour ses oreilles très tendres, vous croirez qu'il m'a échappé, accablé par le poids de mes affaires. Lorsqu'une occasion ou un matériau plus commode se sera présenté, je me conduirai à l'avenir, surtout avec vos conseils, de manière à ce que vous puissiez voir que j'ai suivi la bonne marche. Mon fils Benoît m'a écrit il n'y a pas longtemps de la ville de Marseille, me disant qu'il était effectivement rétabli et qu'il se hâtait de se rendre en Suède pour accompagner le seigneur Gustave Horn, dont l'arrivée était alors annoncée au roi de France, qui résidait à Narbonne; mais qu'il désirait auparavant passer quatorze jours dans des eaux acidulées afin d'être exempt de toutes maladies matérielles, tant futures que récurrentes — Dieu nous en préserve qu'elles ne lui arrivent.
Je termine ainsi et vous recommande à Dieu Tout-Puissant, et je vous prie de prier en mon nom pour que Sa Majesté Royale puisse avoir le bonheur. Donné à Jönköping, le 23 mai 1642.

Jag skulle inte skriva något annat till Hennes Kungliga Majestät om jag inte blev inspirerad att göra det av Er uppmuntran. Jag ber Er därför att inte finna det som en börda att föra dessa bifogade handlingar till Hennes Kungliga Majestät. The subject of the letter, I think, will not displease her, both because she is already engaged in discussing the study of wisdom, and because I have considered this matter to be appropriate for the present time.
But if this word seems too unusual to some for her most tender ears, you will think that it slipped my mind, weighed down by the weight of my affairs. When a more convenient opportunity or material will have been offered, I will conduct myself in the future, especially with your advice, so that you may see that I have observed the proper course. Most of all and above all, I am refreshed by the kindness with which Her Royal Majesty embraces us, her clients and subjects, which we will most humbly strive to deserve throughout our lives by the most prompt kinds of service.
