Excerpt from Bulstrode Whitelocke's diary entry, dated April 2/12 (Old Style), 1654

A journal of the Swedish ambassy, volume 2, page 22, by Bulstrode Whitelocke, published in 1772
Bulstr. Whitelockes Dag-Bok Öfver Dess Ambassade til Sverige, page 500, translated by Johan Edman, 1777
The diary entry excerpt:

... This day ... the queen went abroad to take the aier, and passed through the town in her coach, attended by many gentlemen, and others, in her trayne, to the ill example of her people, and after the bad custome of this place.

With modernised spelling:

... This day ... the Queen went abroad to take the air, and passed through the town in her coach, attended by many gentlemen and others in her train, to the ill example of her people, and after the bad custom of this place.

French translation (my own):

... Ce jour-là ... la reine sortit pour prendre l'air, et elle traversa la ville dans son carrosse, accompagnée de nombreux gentilshommes et d'autres dans sa suite, au mauvais exemple de son peuple, et conformément à la mauvaise coutume en cet endroit.

Swedish translation (by Edman):

- - Drottningen med en ansenlig Svite åkte ... omkring gatorne, och lemnade därigenom, efter den här vedertagne syndiga vanan, elakt efterdöme til sitt folk.

Contemporary Swedish translation (my own):

... Denna dag ... gick drottningen ut för att ta luften, och hon gick genom staden i sin vagn, deltog av många herrar och andra i hennes träng, till sitt folks dåliga exempel och i enlighet med den dåliga seden i denna plats.
