Samuel Pufendorf on Axel Oxenstierna's supposed intention of marrying Kristina to his son Erik and on Kristina's ultimate refusal to marry anyone at all

The account:

§. 49. ... Ex eo igitur tempore Elector [Fridericus Wilhelmus Brandenburgici] cogitationem de matrimonio cum Christina plane seposuit; qvod à Gustavo Adolfo Rege destinatum Axelius Oxenstierna evertit, spe filium Ericum eidem connubio jungendi. Sed qva spe istum & Reginæ generositas, nuptias cum subdito adspernantis, & Caroli Gustavi fervens tunc gratia evolvit; à qvo & ipso tamen affinis Magnus Gabriel Gardius animum Reginæ hactenus avertit, ut nullas plane nuptias inire constitueret. Per qvod id obtentum iri sperabatur, ut vetus eligendi Reges mos revivisceret, stabiliendæ procerum potentiæ inserviturus. Qvæ destinata tamen à Christina assumtus in Principem hæreditarium Carolus Gustavus elusit. ...

§. 49. ... French translation (my own; I cannot tag it as such due to character limits in the tags):

§. 49. ... ...

Swedish translation (my own; I cannot tag it as such due to character limits in the tags):

§. 49. ... ...

English translation (my own):

§. 49. ... The Elector [Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg] completely set aside the thought of matrimony with Kristina, which was intended by King Gustav Adolf and overturned by Axel Oxenstierna in the hope of joining her to his son Erik through the same marriage. But what hope did the Queen's generosity, who despised marriage with a subject, and the then fervent favour of Karl Gustav, inspire in him? His kinsman, Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie, had, however, turned the Queen's mind so far away from him that she decided not to enter into any marriage at all. It was thereby hoped that the old custom of electing kings would be revived, serving to establish the power of the nobles. However, Karl Gustav, who was appointed hereditary prince by Kristina, evaded this appointment. ...
