Vi befalle fördenskull härmed Vår Riksskattmästare, Kammarråd och andra som detta angår att de bemälte magister Johan Matthiæ i rättan tid sitt årliga deputat och tillförordnade salarium följa och bekomma låte. Nous Christine, etc., faisons savoir que Nous avons confié et nommé, comme Nous confions et nommons aussi par la présente Notre bien-aimé et très savant M. Jean Matthiæ pour être Notre précepteur et aumônier principal de la cour, et il devra d'abord, au nom de ces deux fonctions confiées, être fidèle à Nous et à la Couronne de Suède; rechercher Notre bien et Nos meilleurs intérêts; avertir et annoncer à temps les dommages et la destruction, ainsi que les éviter lui-même, autant qu'il est en son pouvoir de le faire.
Ensuite, au nom de son office de précepteur, il sera tenu de Nous instruire dans la doctrine et la religion évangéliques pures et justes, dans la véritable crainte de Dieu, dans les vertus chrétiennes et royales, ainsi que dans les arts littéraires et les langues qui pourront être utiles et glorieux pour Nous et pour la Patrie à l'avenir. En particulier, il Nous encouragera, Nous fortifiera et Nous exhortera constamment à la grâce, à l'inclination et à la bonne affection pour notre Patrie et pour Nos fidèles sujets, des classes supérieures comme inférieures. We Kristina, etc., make known that We have entrusted and appointed, as We also hereby entrust and appoint Our well-beloved and highly learned Mr. Johannes Matthiæ to be Our preceptor and senior court chaplain, and he shall first, on behalf of both of these entrusted offices, be faithful to Us and the Crown of Sweden; seek Our benefit and best interests; warn of and announce harm and destruction in time, as well as avert it himself, as much as is in his power to do.
Then, on behalf of the office of preceptor, he shall be obliged to instruct Us in the right, pure evangelical doctrine and religion, in the true fear of God, in Christian and royal virtues, and in such literary arts and languages as may be of use and praise to Us and the Fatherland in the future. In particular, he shall constantly hold, strengthen and exhort Us to grace, inclination and good affection towards Our own Fatherland and towards Our faithful subjects of the higher and the lower classes, and in sum, with Our information, immediately in accordance with Our given instruction and his established obligation, he shall behave in such a way as he will be able to defend it before God, before Our and the realm's guardians, and before Us Ourself.
In addition, and in equal measure, he shall be obliged to himself both teach and preach the pure and clear word of God, as it is written in the writings of the prophets and Apostles, and to administer the highly worthy sacraments, as well as to have careful inspection over that the same be duly observed by others in Our court congregation and castle church, and that he therefore behave in doctrine and way of living in such a way that others can take an example from it; and that he can safely be accountable to God, to Us and to every honest man now and in times to come.
And so that he may all the better be able to fulfill both of these callings, We have therefore most graciously granted and permitted, as We also, by the power of this letter, do grant and permit that he shall annually receive from Our Chamber of Accounts the salary which the two aforementioned charges have herefore been imposed on him, on Our made court state or which will be imposed hereafter, counting from the time he was first accepted for the same services. We therefore hereby order Our Grand Treasurer, Council of the Chamber and others who are concerned herewith that the said Mr. Johannes Matthiæ shall follow and receive his annual deputed and assigned salary in due time.
