Hambourg le 16. Juin 1667.

Mon Cousin, je ne puis m'empêcher de vous recommander Jean Baptiste de Biron, puisqu'il le mérite pour sa valeur & la fidélité avec laquelle il a servi longtems dans mes Armées; & je le fais d'autant plus volontiers, qu'il m'assure d'être déjà connu de vous, & qu'autrefois vous lui avez accordé la grace de faire des levées pour votre service. Il espére par ma recommandation d'obtenir de vous dans les conjonctures présentes quelque emploi digne de lui; & comme je lui souhaitte avec zéle la consolation qu'il demande, aussi vous devez être persuadé de ma reconnoissance. J'embrasse volontiers cette occasion de vous renouveller l'amitié & l'estime que je vous conserverai toujours, priant Dieu, &c.

Hamburg, den 16 juni 1667.

Min kusin,

Jag kan inte låta bli att rekommendera Jean-Baptiste de Biron till Er, eftersom han förtjänar det för den tapperhet och den trohet med vilken han har tjänat länge i mina arméer; och jag gör det desto mer villigt, ty han försäkrar mig att redan vara känd för Er, och som Ni tidigare har givit honom nåden att göra avgifter för Er tjänst. Han hoppas, genom min rekommendation, att erhålla från Er, i nuvarande konjunkturer, någon anställning värdig honom; och som jag ivrigt önskar honom den tröst han ber om, så måste Ni vara övertygad om min tacksamhet. Jag omfamnar gärna denna möjlighet att förnya den vänskap och aktning för Er som jag alltid kommer att bevara för Er, bedjande till Gud, osv.

English translation (my own):

My cousin,

I cannot help recommending Jean-Baptiste de Biron to you, as he deserves it for the valour and the fidelity with which he has served for a long time in my armies; and I do it all the more willingly, as he assures me of being already known to you, and as you have formerly granted him the grace to make levies for your service. He hopes, by my recommendation, to obtain from you, in the present conjunctures, some employment worthy of him; and as I zealously wish him the consolation he asks for, so you must be persuaded of my gratitude. I gladly embrace this opportunity to renew for you the friendship and esteem that I will always preserve for you, praying to God, etc.

Note: In accordance with the nobility's ideals in the early modern era, kings and queens considered themselves siblings; when talking to someone of a lower rank than their own, they would refer to that person as "my cousin", regardless of whether or not they were related.
