Le 17. Mars 1672.
Monsieur le Comte Montecuculi, on est si persuadé que vous êtes de mes amis, que quelques qualités qu'on posséde d'ailleurs pour être bien reçu, on desire pourtant toujours d'être reconnu de ce nombre, afin de s'adresser agréablement à vous. Cette considération a obligé D. Federico Sforza à me demander cette Lettre pour vous, que je veux adresse avec plaisir, me servant de l'occasion pour vous assurer de la continuation de mon estime, & de mon souvenir. Je vous prie de considérer ce Gentilhomme comme une personne dont la fortune m'est à cœur, & auquel je prends un intérêt particulier. Le dessein qu'il a d'aller chercher la gloire & la fortune si loin, est digne de toutes les faveurs & civilités que vous lui pouvez rendre; son nom & sa maison sont assez connus, & vous l'ayant nommé, je crois vous l'avoir recommandé. Ce que je dois y ajouter de plus, est que mon Cousin le Cardinal Sforze, son Oncle, est de mes Amis intimes, & que je veux bien vous être toujours redevable de tout ce que vous ferez jamais d'obligeant pour lui, priant Dieu qu'il vous tienne en sa sainte garde.

Herr greve Montecuccoli,
Man är så övertygad om att Ni är en av mina vänner att vilka egenskaper man än besitter för att bli väl mottagen, så vill man ändå alltid bli igenkänd av detta nummer, för att tilltala Er på ett trevligt sätt. Detta övervägande har förpliktat Don Federico Sforza att be mig om detta brev åt Er, som jag med nöje kommer att sända, med tillfälle att försäkra Er om att min aktning och mitt minne fortsätter. Betrakta denne herre som en person vars förmögenhet ligger mig varmt om hjärtat och som jag är särskilt intresserad av. Avsikten han har att söka berömmelse och förmögenhet så långt borta är värdig alla tjänster och artigheter Ni kan ge honom; hans namn och hus är välkänt, och efter att ha givit honom namn till Er, tror jag att jag har rekommenderat honom till Er. Lord Count Montecuccoli,
One is so persuaded that you are one of my friends that whatever qualities one possesses to be well received, one nevertheless always desires to be recognised by this number, in order to address you agreeably. This consideration has obliged Don Federico Sforza to ask me for this letter for you, which I will send with pleasure, using the occasion to assure you of the continuation of my esteem and of my memory. Please consider this gentleman as a person whose fortune is close to my heart, and in whom I take a particular interest. The plan he has of seeking fame and fortune so far away is worthy of all the favours and courtesies you can render him; his name and house are well known, and having named him to you, I believe I have recommended him to you. What I must add to this more is that my cousin Cardinal Sforza, his uncle, is one of my intimate friends, and that I am willing to be always indebted to you for all that you will ever do for him, praying to God that He have you in His holy keeping.

Note: In accordance with the nobility's ideals in the early modern era, kings and queens considered themselves siblings; when talking to someone of a lower rank than their own, they would refer to that person as "my cousin", regardless of whether or not they were related.
