Au Comte de Melgar.
Mon Cousin, je m'intéresse d'une maniére si particuliére à la fortune du Capitaine Claudio Martelli, que je ne puis m'empêcher de vous renouveller mes recommandations en sa faveur, sur le bruit qui court de quelque réforme dans la Garnison de Crémone, où il se trouve présentement avec sa Compagnie d'Infanterie. Je vous prie de lui continuer votre protection, pour lui faire la grace de le conserver dans le Service sans le réformer, vous assurant que je vous serai sensiblement obligée de toutes les bontés que vous aurez pour ce Gentilhomme, en considération de cet office, que je passe du meilleur de mon cœur; & me servant de cette occasion pour vous renouveller aussi les assurances de mon estime & amitié, qui sont entiérement acquises à votre mérite, je prie Dieu qu'il vous tienne en sa sainte garde.

Min kusin,
Jag är så särskilt intresserad av kapten Claudio Martellis förmögenhet att jag inte kan avstå från att förnya mina rekommendationer till Er till hans fördel, på grund av ryktet som cirkulerar om någon reform i Cremonas garnison, där han för närvarande befinner sig med sitt infanterikompani. Jag ber Er att fortsätta Ert skydd av honom, att göra honom den nåd att hålla honom i tjänst utan att reformera honom, försäkrande Er om att jag kommer att vara förnuftigt skyldig Er för all den vänlighet Ni kommer att ha mot denne herre, med hänsyn till detta ämbete, som jag passerar från mitt hjärtas bästa; och genom att använda detta tillfälle att förnya Er också försäkringarna om min aktning och vänskap, som helt och hållet beror på Era förtjänster, ber jag till Gud att han skall ha Er i sin heliga vård.

My cousin,
I am so particularly interested in the fortune of Captain Claudio Martelli that I cannot refrain from renewing my recommendations to you in his favour, due to the rumour which is circulating of some reform in the garrison of Cremona, where he is presently with his infantry company. I beg you to continue your protection of him, to do him the grace to keep him in the service without reforming him, assuring you that I will be sensibly obliged to you for all the kindnesses you will have for this gentleman, in consideration of this office, that I pass from the best of my heart; and using this opportunity to renew to you also the assurances of my esteem and friendship, which are entirely due to your merit, I pray God that He have you in His holy keeping.

Note: In accordance with the nobility's ideals in the early modern era, kings and queens considered themselves siblings; when talking to someone of a lower rank than their own, they would refer to that person as "my cousin", regardless of whether or not they were related.
