The letter:
Monsieur le Gouverneur Général. Il est peu consolant pour moi de voir par votre lettre du 8. Mai, qu'avec tous les soins & toute la peine que vous vous êtes donné pour me procurer le païemens des quarante six mille écus qu'on m'avoit promis de tems à autre; vous n'en apportez autre chose que l'excuse, qu'il vous a été impossible de me les faire avoir, le Roi les aïant emploïés à d'autres usages par une résolution postérieure, sans que vous aïez pû l'empêcher d'aucune façon. Je tiens néanmoins Sa Majesté pour trop généreuse, & j'ai trop haute idée de ses résolutions, pour croire, qu'Elle veuille se dispenser de païer cette somme & de satisfaire à toutes ses autres promesses, quand elle en est dûëment requise, & qu'on lui représente, qu'elle s'y est obligée par la signature de sa propre main & par son sçeau, & que dans l'état pitoïable, où je suis, je ne saurois autrement être satisfaite. C'est pourquoi je vous enjoins gracieusement, de concerter & d'aviser précisément avec le Marquis, aux moïens les plus courts & les plus sûrs, pour que lesdites résolutions & promesses sortissent un prompt effèt: comme aussi de concert avec lui d'esprit & de bouche, d'agir & d'insister, qu'on finisse, à ma satisfaction, les négociations, que je lui ai confiées & dont il vous aura fait part. Je ne doute nullement du succès; puisqu'en tout ce que je demande, il n'y a rien qui ne se rapporte à ce qui m'est du & à quoi je ne puisse prétendre de plein droit, & le Roi même se reconnoit obligé par ses propres résolutions à m'en faire jouir. Vous savez ce qu'il a promis lui-même le 21. Février 1678, qu'aussitôt après la paix je serois satisfaite sur tous les revenus de mes domaines en Poméranie & à Gothlande, qui n'avoient pas été païés à cause de la guerre, que la neutralité que j'avois offerte n'avoit pas été acceptée, & qu'en vertu de cela, le Roi & la Couronne répondroient du restant des contributions imposées par le Dannemarck. De quel droit peut-on donc m'obliger & mes Sujèts de les païer ou d'admodier la Gothlande jusqu'à ce qu'elles soïent païées de mes revenus? Faites donc les derniers efforts pour détourner une injustice si grande & si insupportable, & donnez-moi des preuves de votre zèle, de votre attention & que j'obtienne une entière satisfaction. Je vous assure qu'en avancant mes intérêts vous avancerez en même tems les vôtres. Dieu vous conserve!

English translation (my own):
Sir Governor General,
It is hardly consoling for me to see from your letter of May 8 that with all the care and all the trouble you have taken to procure for me the payment of the forty-six thousand crowns that I had been promised from time to time, you bring nothing other than the excuse that it was impossible for you to make me have them, the King having used them for other uses by a later resolution, without your having been able to prevent him from. I nevertheless hold His Majesty to be too generous, and I have too high an idea of his resolutions, to believe that he wishes to dispense with paying this sum and to fulfill all his other promises, when it is duly required, and that it be represented to him, that he has bound himself to it by the signature of his own hand and by his seal, and that in the pitiful state in which I am, I could not otherwise be satisfied. This is why I graciously enjoin you to consult and advise precisely with the Marquis by the shortest and most reliable means, so that the aforesaid resolutions and promises come out promptly; as also in concert with him by mind and by mouth to act and to insist that he finish, to my satisfaction, the negotiations which I entrusted to him and of which he will have informed you. I have no doubts about success, since in everything I ask for there is nothing which does not relate to what is owed to me and to which I cannot claim as of right, and the King himself recognises himself obliged by his own resolutions to me to enjoy it. You know what he himself promised on February 21, 1678, that immediately after the peace I would be satisfied with all the income from my estates in Pomerania and Gotland, which had not been paid because of the war, that the neutrality which I had offered had not been accepted, and that by virtue of this, the King and the Crown would answer for the remainder of the contributions imposed by Denmark. By what right, then, can I and my subjects be compelled to pay them or to control Gotland until they are paid from my income? Make therefore the greatest efforts to avert an injustice so great and so unbearable, and give me proof of your zeal, your attention and that I will obtain complete satisfaction. I assure you that by advancing my interests you will at the same time advance yours. God save you!
