Je ne crojois pas m'abbaisser jusques a escrire a un infame et a un indigne comme Vous; mais puisquil y va de ma gloire de vous faire parler, je vous commande de produire tous les originaux de mes Instructions et lettres que vous avez entre les mains afin que ces lettres et ces Instructions vous fassent connoistre pour l'homme le plus infame et perfide que fust jamais. Je vous ordonne donc de les mettre entre les mains de celluÿ a qui le Roÿ et la Regeance de Suede vous ordonnera. Car je veux qu'on connoisse qu'il n'ÿ a qu'un infame comme vous qui puisse m'accuser d'avoir esté capable de vous ordonner rien qui soit indigne de la haute generosité, dont je fais profession, nÿ d'avoir en la pensée ou la tentation d'arracher la couronne a un Prince a qui je l'aÿ donnée, et qu'il faut estre aussÿ infame que vous pour m'en accuser, ou pour m'en soubçonner. Cependant je ne demande pas a Dieu la punition de vostre crime car il est trop juste pour m'empecher de vous la donner Telle que la merite vostre perfidie.

To Appelman, August 14, 1668.
I never believed I could lower myself to the point of writing to an infamous and an unworthy person like you; but since it is in my glory to make you speak, I command you to produce all the originals of my instructions and letters that you have in your hands, so that these letters and these instructions will make you known as the most vile and most treacherous man ever. I order you therefore to put them in the hands of the one to whom the King and the regency of Sweden will commend you, for I want people to know that there is only one as unworthy as you who can accuse me of having been able to command you to do anything which is unworthy of the high generosity of which I profess, nor of having in the thought, or the temptation to tear the Crown from a prince to whom I have given it, and that one must be as infamous as you to accuse me or to be suspicious of me. However, I do not ask God for the punishment of your crime, for He is too fair to prevent me from giving it to you as your perfidy deserves.

Jag trodde inte att jag skulle böja mig så lågt att jag skulle skriva till en ökänd och ovärdig man som Ni; men eftersom det är min ära att få Er att tala, befaller jag Er att ta fram alla originalen av mina instruktioner och brev som Ni har i Edra händer, så att dessa brev och dessa instruktioner kommer att göra Er känd som den mest ökände och förrädiske mannen någonsin. Jag befaller Er därför att lägga dem i händerna på den som konungen och Sveriges förmyndarregering skall befalla Er till, ty jag vill att det skall bli känt att det bara finns en ökände man som Ni som kan anklaga mig för att ha kunnat att beordra Er att göra något som är ovärdigt den höga generositet som jag bekänner mig till, och inte heller ha tanken eller frestelsen att ta bort Kronan från en prins som jag har givit den, och att han måste vara lika ökänd som Ni för att anklaga mig för det eller misstänka mig för det. Jag ber dock inte Gud om straff för Ert brott, ty han är för rättvis för att hindra mig från att ge det till Er som Er svek förtjänar.
