Mons:r Olivenc[r]antz, J'aÿ receu vos lettres du 18 et 22 Feuvr. Mais le temps me manquant pour vous en faire response à present, Je vous l'envoÿeraÿ avec le prochain. Cependant comme je vous ay déja Ordonné de ne pas ceder, qu'aux Senateurs du Roÿaume, et de vous faire donner de tout le monde l'Excellence, Ainsi je vous aÿ voulu reiterer le meme Ordre icÿ, vous enjoignant de le Suivre Sous peine de mon indignation, et Dieu vous fasse prospere[r].

P. S. J'oubliois de vous ordonner sous peine de ma disgrace de ne donner le titre d'Excellence qu'à ceux qui vous le donneront: étant fort jalouse de ma gloire en ce qui regarde votre personne. Vous savez aussi fort bien qu'il y a des personnes qui vous donneroient ce qui vous est dû, auxquelles vous ne serez pas obligé de leur rendre la pareille. Mais je ne vous donne pas des Leçons là-dessus: sachant que vous êtes très-bien informé de tout ce qu'il faut faire.

Jag har fått Era brev av den 18 och 22 februari, men jag har inte tillräckligt med tid att ge svar på dem för närvarande, så jag skickar det till Er med nästa posten. Men som jag ju redan har befallt Er att endast ge efter för Riksrådsmannen och låta alla ge Er Excellence, så ville jag att Ni här skulle upprepa samma befallning, och uppmanade Er att följa den, under straff för min indignation; och Gud välsigne Er. Rom, den 11 april 1682.

P. S. Jag glömde att beordra Er, under straff för min onåd, att ge Excellenstiteln endast till dem som vill ge Er den, eftersom jag är mycket jalu över min härlighet vad gäller Er person. Ni vet också mycket väl att det finns människor som kommer att ge Er vad Ni är skyldig, till vilka Ni inte skall vara skyldig att ge tillbaka tjänsten. Men jag ger Er inga lektioner om detta, eftersom jag vet att Ni är mycket kunnig om allt som måste göras.

I have received your letters of February 18 and 22, but I do not have enough time to give a reply to them at present, so I will send it to you by the next ordinary. However, as I have already ordered you to yield only to the Senator of the Kingdom and to have everyone give you Excellence, so I wanted you to repeat here the same order, enjoining you to follow it, under penalty of my indignation; and God bless you. Rome, April 11, 1682.

P. S. I forgot to order you, under penalty of my disgrace, to give the title of Excellency only to those who will give it to you, being very jealous of my glory as regards your person. You also know very well that there are people who will give you what you are owed, to whom you will not be obliged to return the favour.
