Dopo haver voluto Christina con la pace accordata con gli Austriaci fermar il corso alle prosperità del suo Regno, era appresso quei popoli molto decaduta dalla stima, & affetto, che per l'autorità del comando, e per le sue virtù meritava. La natione di genio martiale, i Generali, & i soldati avvezzi all'armi, & alle prede, patir non potevano l'otio inutile, e la pace mendica. Appariva in oltre la Reina tutta inclinata agli Austriaci, e con officii efficaci promoveva l'elettione di Ferdinando Quatro in Rè de' Romani, nè sapevasi indovinar la cagione. Antonio Pimentelli, Ambasciator, di Spagna trattava con tal confidenza, che pareva tenesse sopra di lei arbitrio assoluto: ma ella tocca da interni lumi della Religione sincera, di lui si serviva per appoggiarsi in ogni caso alla Spagna, e per far venir in Svetia huomini dotti per istruirsi. Indebolendosi dunque il credito di Christina, s'innalzava il partito dell'Oxenstern; & il Principe Carlo Gustavo Palatino dichiarato per successore, mostrando da lei dipendenza modesta, tirava a sè con arte sagace i cuori, & i favori di tutti. Perciò con attione, ch'è forse la più celebre de' nostri tempi, volontariamente la Reina in età di ventisette anni gli rinuntiò la Corona. ...

Après que Christine eut voulu arrêter le cours de la prospérité de son royaume par la paix accordée aux Autrichiens, elle était tombée bien loin de l'estime et de l'affection qu'elle avait méritées pour l'autorité de son commandement et pour ses vertus parmi ces peuples. La nation de génie martial, les généraux et les soldats, habitués aux armes et au butin, ne pouvaient supporter une oisiveté inutile et une paix misérable. De plus, la reine semblait complètement inclinée vers les Autrichiens, et par des offices efficaces elle favorisa l'élection de Ferdinand IV comme roi des Romains, sans qu'on puisse en deviner la raison.
Antoine Pimentel, l'ambassadeur d'Espagne, la traitait avec une telle confiance qu'il semblait avoir sur elle un pouvoir absolu, mais elle, touchée par les lumières intérieures de la religion sincère, l'utilisait pour s'appuyer sur l'Espagne dans tous les cas et pour faire venir en Suède des hommes savants pour l'instruire. Nationen av krigsgeni, generalerna och soldaterna, vana vid vapen och byte, kunde inte uthärda värdelös sysslolöshet och tiggande fred. Dessutom verkade drottningen vara helt benägen mot österrikarna och med effektiva ämbeten främjade hon valet av Ferdinand IV till romarnas konung, och man kunde inte heller gissa anledningen.
Antonio Pimentel, Spaniens ambassadör, behandlade henne med ett sådant självförtroende att han verkade ha absolut makt över henne, men hon, berörd av den uppriktiga religionens inre ljus, använde honom för att förlita sig på Spanien i alla fall och för att ta med sig lärda män till Sverige för att instruera henne. After Kristina had wanted to stop the course of prosperity of her kingdom with the peace granted to the Austrians, she had fallen far from the esteem and affection that she had deserved for the authority of her command and for her virtues among those people. The nation of martial genius, the generals and soldiers, accustomed to arms and booty, could not endure useless idleness and beggarly peace. In addition, the Queen appeared to be completely inclined towards the Austrians, and with effective offices she promoted the election of Ferdinand IV as King of the Romans, nor could one guess the reason.
Antonio Pimentel, the ambassador of Spain, treated her with such confidence that he seemed to have absolute power over her, but she, touched by the inner lights of the sincere religion, used him to rely on Spain in every case and to bring learned men to Sweden to instruct her.
