Votre Lettre m'a donné bien de la joie en m'apprenant de vos nouvelles; & comme j'ai pour vous toute l'estime & l'amitié que vous méritez, les témoignages de votre affection me seront toujours fort agréables. Je vous remercie des Livres que vous m'avez envoyés, quoique je ne les aye pas encore reçus, & vous prie de croire que ce sera toujours avec joye que j'embrasserai les occasions de vous témoigner l'état & l'estime que je fais de vous. Cependant je prie Dieu &c.
Swedish translation (my own):
Ert brev har givit mig stor glädje i att berätta om Era nyheter; och som jag har för Er all den aktning och vänskap som Ni förtjänar, kommer betygelsen om Er tillgivenhet alltid att vara mycket angenäma för mig. Jag tackar Er för de böcker Ni har skickat mig, fastän jag ännu inte fått dem, och jag ber Er tro att det alltid kommer att vara med glädje som jag kommer att omfamna möjligheterna att betyga Er den stat och den aktning som jag gör av Er. Emellertid ber jag till Gud, osv.
English translation (my own):
Your letter has given me great joy in telling me of your news; and as I have for you all the esteem and friendship that you deserve, the testimonies of your affection will always be very agreeable to me. I thank you for the books you have sent me, although I have not yet received them, and I beg you to believe that it will always be with joy that I will embrace the opportunities to testify to you the state and the esteem that I make of you. In the meantime, I pray to God, etc.
