Monsieur le Gouverneur-Général, j'ai reçu votre Lettre du 20. Janvier, où j'ai vu ce que vous avez concerté avec le Sr. Wasmuth au sujet de l'impression de son Ouvrage, & qu'il se contente des propositions que vous lui avez faites de ma part, mais que pour s'y engager tout-à-fait, il a desiré que vous vous obligeassiez à lui fournir l'argent pour cette impression, afin qu'elle ne soit pas arrêtée quand elle sera commencée. J'approuve tout ce que vous avez fait, & suis encore résolue à lui donner, après que l'Ouvrage sera achevé, la récompense dont vous conviendriez avec lui selon que je vous l'ai déjà ordonné, pourvu qu'il souscrive aussi à deux autres conditions que j'avois oubliées dans ma premiére dépêche, lesquelles il doit observer nécessairement s'il veut qu'on fasse la dépense. Premiérement, qu'il ne profére point de blasphêmes contre la Religion Catholique; qu'il parle avec respect de tous les Papes, sur-tout de celui qui viendra, comme on doit parler des grands Princes. Secondement, qu'il parle avec éloge, estime & honneur de feu François Levera, à qui nous devons la connoissance du véritable mouvement du Soleil, & que la mort a empêché de faire le reste à mes dépens. Avec ces conditions je consens à tout ce qu'il souhaitte pour la dépense de son Ouvrage. C'est pourquoi traittez-en avec lui, & faites qu'il s'y oblige. Tâchez aussi de faire cette dépense insensiblement, afin que ma pauvreté en souffre le moins qu'il se pourra, car je la veux faire coûte que coûte. Je me promets tout de votre prudence & application pour mon avantage & ma gloire. Au reste je me remets à ce que je vous en a déjà écrit. Dieu vous fasse prospérer.

Herr generalguvernör,
Jag har mottagit Ert brev av den 20 januari, i vilket jag har sett att Ni hade samordnat med herr Wasmuth om tryckningen av hans arbete, och att han nöjde sig med de förslag, som Ni gjorde till honom för min räkning, men att för att förbinder sig helt därtill, han har önskat, att Ni förpliktar Er att förse honom med pengarna för denna tryckning, så att den inte stoppas, när den påbörjas. Jag godkänner allt som Ni har gjort och är fortfarande fast besluten att ge honom, efter att arbetet är avslutat, den belöning som Ni skulle komma överens med honom om som jag redan har beordrat Er att, förutsatt att han också undertecknar två andra villkor som jag glömt i min första försändelse, och som han med nödvändighet måste iaktta om han vill ha utgiften. För det första: att han inte uttalar hädelser mot den katolska religionen; att han talar med respekt för alla påvarna, särskilt om den som kommer, såsom man bör tala om stora furstar. English translation (my own):

Lord Governor General,
I have received your letter of January 20th, in which I have seen that you had concerted with Mr. Wasmuth about the printing of his work, and that he was content with the proposals you made to him on my behalf, but that in order to commit himself completely to it, he has desired that you oblige yourself to provide him with the money for this printing, so that it will not be stopped when it is begun. I approve of all that you have done and am still resolved to give him, after the work is finished, the reward which you would agree with him as I have already ordered you to, provided that he also subscribe to two other conditions which I forgot in my first despatch, and which he must necessarily observe if he wants the expense incurred. First, that he does not utter blasphemies against the Catholic religion; that he speak with respect of all the Popes, especially of the one who is coming, as one should speak of great princes. Secondly, that he speak with praise, esteem and honour of the late Francesco Levera, to whom we owe the knowledge of the true movement of the sun, and whom death prevented from doing the rest, at my expense. With these conditions I consent to whatever he wishes for the expense of his work. Therefore, treat with him, and make him oblige himself to it. Also, try to do this expenditure imperceptibly, so that my poverty suffers from it as little as possible, for I want to spend it at all costs. I promise myself all of your prudence and application for my advantage and my glory. For the rest, I go back to what I have already written to you about it. God bless you.
