Rome ce 15. Mars 1687.
M[onsieu]r. OliueCrantz; J'ay veu l'Ouurage de Wasmuth, et l'ayant examiné Je l'ay trouvé tel qu'il est impossible de le Souffrir, estant un Ouurage entierement heretique; C'est pour quoy Je vous ordonne de tout Suspendre, car Je ne puis y contribuer ny Souffrir qu'il porte mon nom, et [Je] Suis fachée d'une Si mechante depence desia faite; mais Je vous deffens d'y depencer plus rien, S'il ne Se corrige; Vous deuez croire que Je ne puis, ny ne veux contribuer a rien qui Soit contraire a nostre Sainte Religion Catholique Romaine. Escriuez luy la dessus; Je vous enuoy la Copie de la lettre que Je luy escris. Je ne me plains pas de la depence faite, mais Je ne veux pas depencer en des Ouurages heretiques, et Je Suis plus delicate la dessus que vous ne pouuez vous immaginer; C'est pour quoy Je vous ordonne de tout Suspendre Jusqu'a ce qu'il aye corrigé tout ce qui peut chocquer la Religion Catholique; Je luy le marqueray tout, et il ne faut pas Se flatter d'y faire passer des equiuoques la dessus.

I have seen Wasmuth's work, and having examined it, I found it such that it is not possible to allow it, being entirely heretical; this is why I order you to suspend everything, for I cannot contribute to it nor allow it to bear my name; I am sorry for the poor expense that has already been made for this work. I forbid you to spend anything more on it if the author does not correct it; you must believe that I cannot, nor will I, contribute to anything that is contrary to our holy Roman Catholic religion. Write to him about it; I am sending you a copy of the letter I am writing to him. I don't complain about the expense I've made so far, but I don't want to spend it on heretical works, and I am more sensitive about that than you can imagine. So I order you to suspend everything until Wasmuth has corrected everything that may shock the Catholic religion. I will mark everything, and we must not flatter ourselves that we are using equivocations here.
