Kristina's letter of September 20/30 (New Style), 1687 to Mademoiselle de Scudéry is here:
The account:
She was now fat and round, looking smaller than ever, with a double chin, but a merry wit which never failed her. She confessed to Mlle de Scudéry that she dreaded old age, and would prefer death: and death came long before she showed any signs of age, though it spared her till she was sixty-three.
Above: Kristina.
Above: Mademoiselle de Scudéry.
Above: Faith Compton Mackenzie.
Note: Kristina was 62 when she died, not 63.
