1648 i Januari drog jag till Visingsborg, och kom midt i Februari Gud ske lof väl opp igen.

Medan jag var borta, blef resolveradt, att Hertig Carl Gustaf skulle resa åt Tyskland, såsom Hennes Kongl. Maj:ts General-Lieutenant, och förrän det blef samtyckt af Rådet, försäkrade Hennes Maj:t, att hon ingen annan ville taga till Gemål än honom.

Litet innan jag reste bort och före Julhelgen, talte Hennes Kongl. Maj:t först med mig derom, och några dagar derefter med mig, Fältherren och Canzleren: och voro då alle ense, att så framt Hennes Kongl. Maj:t icke tänkte taga Hertigen, så kunde man för höga och stora orsakers skull icke råda till samma utresa och sålunda på ovisshet lefverera honom en armée i händerna. ...

En janvier 1648, je suis allé à Visingsborg, et au milieu de février, grâce à Dieu, j'ai bien remonté.

Pendant mon absence, il fut résolu que le duc Charles-Gustave se rendrait en Allemagne en tant que lieutenant-général de Sa Majesté Royale, et jusqu'à ce que le Conseil y consente, Sa Majesté assura qu'elle ne prendrait que lui comme époux.

Un peu avant mon départ, et avant Noël, Sa Majesté Royale m'en parla d'abord, et quelques jours après à moi, au maréchal et au chancelier; et nous étions alors tous d'accord que tant que Sa Majesté Royale n'avait pas l'intention de prendre le duc, alors pour de hautes et grandes raisons elles ne pouvaient pas conseiller sur le même départ et ainsi livrer une armée entre ses mains dans l'incertitude. ...

English translation (my own):

In January 1648 I went to Visingsborg, and in the middle of February, thank God, I came up again well.

While I was away, it was resolved that Duke Karl Gustav should go to Germany as Her Royal Majesty's Lieutenant General, and until it was consented to by the Council, Her Majesty assured that she would take no one but him as her consort.

A little before I left, and before Christmas, Her Royal Majesty first spoke to me about it, and a few days afterwards to me, the Field Marshal, and the Chancellor; and we then all agreed that as long as Her Royal Majesty did not intend to take the Duke, then for high and great reasons they could not advise on the same departure and thus deliver an army into his hands in uncertainty. ...
