Le 1. Décembre 1685.
Teixera se plaint de vous avec grande raison, & j'en suis si scandalisée, pour ne vous rien dire de plus desobligeant, que je ne puis trouver des termes assez forts pour vous en témoigner mon ressentiment. Je vous l'épargne cependant, parce que je vous aime; mais il faut changer de conduite, car je suis très-mal satisfaite de tout ce que vous avez fait à l'égard de Teixera, depuis que vous êtes parti de Rome. Je vois bien que vous voudriez rompre le Contrat fait avec lui; mais je vous déclare nettement que vous n'y réussirez jamais; car je veux qu'il subsiste dans toutes ses clauses, jusqu'à ce que j'aye conclu un nouveau Contrat, où je rémédierai aux inconvénient du premier le mieux qu'il me sera possible. Cependant ne vous amusez pas à faire le Tuteur avec moi. Obéissez aveuglément à mes ordres, & n'ayez pas la témérité d'y rien changer de votre chef sans mes ordres exprès. Faites payer ponctuellement Teixera selon le Contrat, & rémédiez à tous les désordres qu'ont causé toutes les dispositions contraires au Contrat que vous avez faites, & préparez-vous à me rendre compte de tous les préjudices que je recevrai de vos brouilleries. Je vous en écris plus amplement dans une autre Dépêche; mais j'ai voulu vous en parler dans celle-ci plus particuliérement, afin que vous ne prétendiez pas cause d'ignorance de mes intentions. Vous me dites que Teixera sera payé avant que l'année finisse, ce seroit bien réparer vos fautes; mais j'y vois peu d'apparence de la maniére que vous vous y prenez jusqu'ici. Le tems me manque, & je me remets à mériter mes bonnes graces par votre fidélité & votre obéissance, & ne me donnez pas le déplaisir d'avoir sujet de me plaindre de vous.
P. S. Souvenez-vous combien j'ai à cœur l'affaire de Moon & l'échange de Bréme, & travaillez-y de la bonne maniére.

Texeira klagar på Er med stor anledning, och jag är så skandaliserad av det, för att inte säga något mer nedsättande för Er, att jag inte kan finna ord som är starka nog för att visa Er min förbittring. Jag skonar Er dock, ty jag älskar Er; men Ni måste ändra Ert beteende, ty jag är mycket missnöjd med allt Ni har gjort med avseende på Texeira sedan Ni lämnade Rom. Jag ser att Ni skulle vilja bryta det kontrakt som gjorts med honom; men jag säger Er tydligt att Ni aldrig kommer att lyckas, ty jag vill att den skall finnas kvar i alla sina klausuler tills jag har slutit ett nytt kontrakt, där jag så gott jag kan avhjälpa den förstas besvär. English translation (my own):
December 1, 1685.
Texeira complains of you with great reason, and I am so scandalised by it, to say nothing more disparaging to you, that I cannot find terms strong enough to show you my resentment. I spare you, however, because I love you; but you must change your behaviour, because I am very unsatisfied with everything you have done with regard to Texeira since you left Rome. I see that you would like to break the contract made with him; but I tell you clearly that you will never succeed, because I want it to remain in all its clauses until I have concluded a new contract, where I will remedy the inconveniences of the first as best as I can. In the meantime, don't play tutor with me. Obey my orders blindly, and don't have the temerity to change anything on your own without my express orders. Pay Texeira punctually according to the contract, and remedy all the disorders which have been caused by all the provisions contrary to the contract which you have made, and prepare to render an account to me of all the prejudices which I will receive from your quarrels. I write to you more about it in another despatch, but I wanted to speak to you about it in this one more particularly, so that you do not claim cause of ignorance of my intentions. You tell me that Texeira will be paid before the end of the year, it would be good to repair your faults; but I see little appearance in the manner in which you are going about it up to now. I am running out of time, and I am once again earning my good graces by your fidelity and your obedience, and do not give me the displeasure of having cause to complain of you.
P. S. Remember how much I care about the Moon affair and the Bremen exchange, and work it out the right way.
