Pour répondre à votre Billet, que m'a donné l'Abbé Palettonio, je vous dirai que je l'ai écouté paisiblement pour m'informer de tous vos sentimens & prétentions. Je suis fâchée de voir, qu'au-lieu d'acquiescer aux importantes raisons que je vous ai fait représenter, pour vous disposer à vous acquitter d'un devoir aussi indispensable que l'est celui de visiter à discrétion le reste de Messieurs les Cardinaux, vous me proposez de nouvelles difficultés sur ce sujet, qui rendent l'affaire inaccommodable, & m'obligent de retirer la main de cet ouvrage, qui ne peut finir glorieusement pour vous, qu'en renonçant de bonne grace à toutes vos prétentions, & en satisfaisant à un devoir si essentiel de votre Emploi. Je suis persuadée que d'en user ainsi c'est vous obliger en cette occasion, & cependant je prie Dieu qu'il vous inspire de meilleur[e]s résolutions, & qu'il vous tienne en sa sainte & digne garde.

Il Duca di Vandomo con l'istesso Carattere, e l'istessa pretensione si contentò, ut supra. Il Duca di Longavilla Ambasciadore nel Trattato di Vestfalia con l'istessa pretensione, fece l'istessa riuscita.
Il Duca di Verneuil Ambasciadore straordinario in Inghilterra hebbe l'istesso rincontro, e riuscita.
Il Duca di Vandomo Ambasciadore straordinario in Ollanda con l'istessa retensione, e l'istessa riuscita.

Le Duc de Nevers, Ambassadeur d'Obédience pour la France à Rome, prétendoit le Titre d'Altesse, & se contenta après de celui d'Excellence.
Le Duc de Vendôme avec le même Caractére & la même prétention, se contenta ut suprà. Le Duc de Longueville Ambassadeur de Westphalie, avec la même prétention réussit comme les autres.
Le Duc de Verneuil, Ambassadeur Extraordinaire en Angleterre, s'aheurta à la même chose & y réussit aussi peu.
Le Duc de Vendôme, Ambassadeur Extraordinaire en Hollande, fit la même demande, & eut le même succès.

Som svar på Er billett, som fader Palettonio gav mig, kommer jag att berätta för Er att jag har lyssnat på den fridsamt, för att informera mig om alla Era känslor och påståenden. Hertigen av Nevers, lydnadsambassadör för Frankrike i Rom, gjorde anspråk på titeln Höghet och fick nöja sig efteråt med Excellens.
Hertigen de Vendôme, med samma karaktär och samma anspråk, fick nöja sig med ut supra. Hertigen de Longueville, ambassadör i Westfalen, med samma anspråk lyckades som de andra.
Hertigen de Verneuil, ambassadör extraordinarie i England, stötte på samma sak och lyckades lika lite.

In response to your note, given to me by Father Palettonio, I will tell you that I have listened to it peacefully, so as to inform myself of all your feelings and claims. I am sorry to see that, instead of acquiescing in the important reasons which I have represented to you in order to prepare you to fulfill such an indispensable duty as that of visiting at discretion the rest of the Cardinals, you propose to me new difficulties on this subject, which make the affair unsuitable and oblige me to withdraw my hand from this work, which can only end gloriously for you, by renouncing with good grace all your pretensions, and fulfilling such an essential duty of your job. I am persuaded that to do so is to oblige you on this occasion, and in the meantime I pray God that He inspire you with better resolutions and that He keep you in His holy and worthy care.

The Duc de Nevers, Ambassador of Obedience for France in Rome, claimed the title of Highness, and contented himself afterwards with that of Excellency.
The Duc de Vendôme, with the same character and the same pretension, contented himself with ut suprà. The Duc de Longueville, Ambassador to Westphalia, with the same claim succeeds like the others.
The Duc de Verneuil, Ambassador Extraordinary to England, came up against the same thing and succeeded just as little.
The Duc de Vendôme, Ambassador Extraordinary to Holland, made the same request and had the same success.
