Excerpt of English translation of President Viole's letter to Henri de Taillefer de Barrière mentioning Kristina's plans to stay in Brussels, dated December 30, 1654/January 9, 1655 (New Style)

Source:

A Collection of the State Papers of John Thurloe, Esq;, volume 3, page 54, published by Thomas Birch, 1742; original at the University of Michigan

... The queen of Sweden intends to stay here all this winter. She hath hired the house of Egmond to live in. We never go to visit her. I believe you know the reason. ...

With modernised spelling:

Brussels, the 9th of January, 1655. [N. S.]
... The Queen of Sweden intends to stay here all this winter. She hath hired the house of Egmont to live in. We never go to visit her. I believe you know the reason. ...

Reconstruction of the French original (my own translation):

Bruxelles, le 9 janvier 1655. [Nouveau style.]
... La reine de Suède compte passer l'hiver ici. Elle a loué la maison d'Egmont pour y vivre. Nous n'allons jamais lui rendre visite. Je crois que vous en connaissez la raison. ...

Swedish translation (my own):

Bryssel, den 9 januari 1655. [Nya stilen.]
... Sveriges drottning har för avsikt att stanna här hela vintern. Hon har hyrt Egmonts hus att bo i. Vi besöker henne aldrig. Jag tror att Ni vet anledningen. ...

Above: Kristina.

Above: Lodewijk Filips (Louis-Philippe), Count of Egmont.
