The letter:
Paris, Jan. 20, 1657. [N. S.]
SIR,
... The earl Tot, though he hath taken upon him as yet no public character, yet nevertheless he hath had two private conferences with the cardinal, who received him very civilly. The said earl is said to go for Italy, after he hath done here, to see the queen Christina from the king of Sweden.
With modernised spelling:
Paris, January 20, 1657. [N. S.]
Sir,
... The Earl Tott, though he hath taken upon him as yet no public character, yet nevertheless he hath had two private conferences with the Cardinal, who received him very civilly. The said Earl is said to go for Italy, after he hath done here, to see the Queen Kristina from the King of Sweden.
French translation (my own):
Paris, le 20 janvier 1657. [Nouveau style.]
Monsieur,
Swedish translation (my own):
Paris, den 20 januari 1657. [Nya stilen.]
Min herre,
