Excerpt of English translation of President Viole's letter revealing Kristina's conversion to Catholicism, dated September 8/18 (New Style), 1655

Source:

A Collection of the State Papers of John Thurloe, Esq;, volume 4, page 20, published by Thomas Birch, 1742; original at Indiana University

... The queen of Sweden was to depart to-day, but she doth not go now till tuesday next. It is said here (but privately) that the queen is a catholic.

With modernised spelling:

Brussels, 18 September 1655. [N. S.]
... The Queen of Sweden was to depart today, but she doth not go now till Tuesday next. It is said here (but privately) that the Queen is a Catholic.

Reconstruction of the French original (my own translation):

Bruxelles, le 18 septembre 1655. [Nouveau style.]
... La reine de Suède devait partir aujourd'hui, mais elle ne partira que mardi prochain. On dit ici (mais en privé) que la reine est catholique.

Swedish translation (my own):

Bryssel, den 18 september 1655. [Nya stilen.]
... Sveriges drottning skulle avresa idag, men hon reser inte förrän nästa tisdag. Det sägs här (men i hemlighet) att drottningen är katolik.

Above: Kristina.
