Il faut que vous y travailliez avec vigueur & application, pour que je puisse jouir du Duché de Bréme souverainement, & sans aucune dépendance, voulant tirer tous les revenus de cette province, & payer les Garnisons & toutes les dépenses nécessaires pour le maintien de l'Etat aux conditions que voici:

22. Juillet, 1668.
I. Qu'on limite d'un commun consentement le nombre des Garnisons, & des hommes qui les doivent composer.
II. Que la Charge de Gouverneur ne puisse être possédée que par un Sénateur du Royaume de Suède, mais que l'Election dépendra de la volonté absolue de la Reine, aussi-bien que celle des autres Charges Militaires & Civiles, & que la Reine l'oblige d'employer......., ou au plus des Suédois naturels préférablement à toute autre Nation.
III. Qu'ils prêtent serment de fidélité & d'obéissance à la Reine durant sa vie, aussi-bien qu'au Roi, & que de cette façon on pourvoye également à la sûreté de la Reine pour le présent & à celle du Roi pour l'avenir: que tout le reste de la Province, avec ses revenus, droits, souverainetés, & autres avantages, doit dépendre absolument de la Reine durant sa vie.
IV. Qu'elle doit avoir Votum & sessionem in Comitiis Imperii, & Circulii &c. &c.
V. Que la Reine doit de payer à ses dépens les Garnisons, & l'Etat Civil de tout le Gouvernement. Qu'elle donne toutes les Charges, tant Civiles que Militaires, & que le tout dépende souverainement d'elle durant sa vie; & qu'afin de le pouvoir faire, tous les revenus & contributions ordinaires & extraordinaires appartiendront à Sa Majesté, laquelle doit prendre le tout à ses risques, soit de gain, ou de perte.
VI. Que la Monnoye doit dépendre absolument d'elle durant sa vie, & qu'elle ne puisse se marquer que de son coin, & selon les constitutions & coutumes de l'Empire.
VII. Que l'Empereur, & les États-Généraux d'Hollande donnent à la Reine une garantie pour sa sûreté.
VIII. Que la Reine pour sa sûreté se réserve un droit d'Otage sur les Domaines de Suède contre tout ce qui pourroit arriver. Si par quelque accident, qu'on ne peut prévoir, il arrivoit qu'elle fût dépouillée par le Roi, ou par d'autres de ce Duché, que ses droits seront conservés en Suède dans un cas semblable, en vertu de son Abdication, comme si cet échange ne fût jamais arrivé.
Ce sont mes sentimens sur cette affaire; & je suis persuadée que vous y réussirez, si vous demeurez ferme sur cet article, & n'ajoutez aucune créance aux paroles qu'on vous mettra en avant.
Si vous voyez que, pour obtenir l'exercice de la Religion, il y a des obstacles, abandonnez cette entreprise, & employez tous vos efforts à la conclusion de l'échange; car si l'on vient à bout de cette négociation, il ne faudra plus chercher la liberté de Religion, puisque je n'aurai plus occasion de venir en Suède; faites-leur bien entendre ce point.
Ne manquez pas d'assurer de ma part le Grand-Trésorier, du dessein que j'ai de maintenir toujours la Charge de mon Gouverneur-Général, quoiqu'on m'accorde l'échange; que je la lui laisserai autant qu'il la voudra garder, & que je ne mettrai mes intérêts en d'autres mains que les siennes. Tâchez pourtant de maintenir dans l'espérance tous les autres Aspirans jusqu'à la fin de la Diette, suivant ce que je vous ai écrit dans mes précédentes Lettres sur cet article.
Faites à la Comtesse Steinbock mes remercimens pour les obligeantes marques qu'elle me donne de son affection en favorisant mes intérêts.

Suspendez un peu votre ardeur pour l'affaire de la Religion jusqu'à ce que l'échange soit entiérement ajustée, & servez-vous des Etats, sur-tout de la Noblesse, pour réussir heureusement. Ne vous avisez pas de perdre le tems en Cérémonies, & sur-tout témoignez-vous respectueux & civil aux Sénateurs & à la Noblesse. Si on ne m'accorde pas l'affaire de l'échange par vous, je suis résolue d'aller moi-même la solliciter, car je suis sûre que je l'obtiendrai: c'est de quoi vous pouvez les menacer.
English translation (my own):
You must work at it with vigour and application so that I can enjoy the Duchy of Bremen sovereignly, and without any dependence, wishing to draw all the revenues of this province, and pay the garrisons and all the expenses necessary for the maintenance of the State with the following conditions:
Latest Terms for the Exchange Affair.
July 22, 1668.
1. That one limit by common consent the number of garrisons, and the men who are to compose them.
2. That the office of Governor may only be possessed by a Senator of the Kingdom of Sweden, but that the election will depend on the absolute will of the Queen, as well as that of other military and civil offices, and that the Queen oblige to employ ......., or at most natural Swedes preferably to any other nation.
3. That they take an oath of fidelity and obedience to the Queen during her lifetime, as well as to the King, and that in this way the security of the Queen is also provided for the present and that of the King for the future; that all the rest of the province, with its revenues, rights, sovereignties, and other advantages, must absolutely depend on the Queen during her lifetime.
4. That she must have votum et sessionem in Comitiis Imperii, et Circulii etc. etc.
5. That the Queen must pay at her expense the garrisons and the civil states of the whole government. That she give all the responsibilities, both civil and military, and that everything depend sovereignly on her during her lifetime; and that in order to be able to do so, all ordinary and extraordinary income and contributions shall belong to Her Majesty, who must take everything at her own risk, either of gain or of loss.
6. That the currency must depend absolutely on her during her lifetime, and that it can be marked only from her corner, and according to the constitutions and customs of the Empire.
7. That the Emperor and the Estates General of Holland give the Queen a guarantee for her security.
8. That the Queen for her security reserve the right of hostage over the domains of Sweden against anything that might happen. If by some accident, which cannot be foreseen, it should happen that she was stripped by the King, or by others of this Duchy, that her rights will be preserved in Sweden in a similar case, by virtue of her abdication, as if this exchange had never happened.
These are my feelings on this matter; and I am convinced that you will succeed, if you stand firm on this article and do not add any credence to the words that will be put to you.
If you see that, in order to obtain the exercise of religion, there are obstacles; abandon this enterprise, and use all your efforts at the conclusion of the exchange, because if we come to the end of this negotiation, we will no longer have to seek freedom of religion, since I will no longer have the opportunity to come to Sweden. Make this point clear to them.
Do not fail to assure on my behalf the Grand Treasurer of the design that I have of always maintaining the office of my Governor General, although I am granted the exchange that I will leave it to him as much as he wishes to keep it, and that I will not put my interests in other hands than his. However, try to keep all the other aspirants in hope until the end of the Riksdag, as I wrote to you in my previous letters on this article.

Suspend a little your ardour for the affair of religion until the exchange is fully adjusted, and use the Estates, especially the nobility, to succeed happily. Do not dare to waste time in ceremonies, and above all show yourself respectful and civil to the senators and to the nobility. If I am not granted the exchange deal by you, I am resolved to go and solicit it myself, for I am sure I will obtain it. This is what you can threaten them with.
