La lettre qui m'a été envoyée sur le fin de mai par l'entremise de notre amie de Belgique m'a appris les heureux progrès de Votre Majesté et le souvenir qu'elle daigne garder de mes services. La consolation que j'en ai éprouvé est si grande, si douce, que la parole me manque pour l'exprimer. Un peu auparavant était arrivée la lettre de Votre Majesté au signor Alessandro; mais il était passé à une meilleure vie; j'espère qu'il étendra sur notre entreprise une protection d'autant plus puissante qu'il est plus près du trône de Dieu. J'attends avec impatience l'arrivée de notre ami Ascanio. Il m'a écrit d'Hambourg à la date du 22 mai que nous ne tarderions pas à nous revoir. J'apporterai tous mes soins à l'exécution des ordres qu'il me transmettra de la part de Votre Majesté. Au reste, il a bien fait d'ouvrir la lettre que j'avais écrite à notre ami de Belgique; il en avait le droit non-seulement à raison de son autorité sur toutes mes affaires, mais encore parce que, en cette occasion, il y était obligé pour savoir la conduite à tenir vis-à-vis de ce personnage. Le compagnon de celui-ci est déjà retourné dans son pays et j'espère qu'il en fera autant lui-même. Dorénavant, on ne permettra plus à eux ni à aucun autre de mes amis de retourner là-bas sans un ordre exprès de Votre Majesté. Je ne leur ai rien communiqué de notre affaire, et je n'en dirai mot à qui que ce soit, hormis ceux qui sont initiés au secret depuis le commencement. J'ai averti Apollonio de ne plus envoyer de lettres en un lieu où il y a trop de monde. J'écrirai avec plus de détails après l'arrivée d'Ascanio. Je supplie Votre Majesté de faire remettre la lettre ci-incluse à Don Lucio, lequel pourra lui donner des éclaircissements sur ce qui ne serait pas marqué assez expressément dans celle-ci. Et je prie la divine Bonté de conserver Votre Majesté et de redoubler pour elle ses faveurs.

Brevet som i slutet af maj genom vår vän från Belgien sändes till mig har underrättat mig om Ers Majestäts lyckliga framsteg och det minne, som Ni förtjänar att behålla av mina tjänster. Trösten jag har upplevt är så stor, så söt, att jag saknar ord för att uttrycka den. Lite tidigare hade Ers Majestäts brev till signor Alessandro kommit, men han hade gått vidare till ett bättre liv; jag hoppas att han kommer att utsträcka ett skydd över vårt företag desto starkare ju närmare han är Guds tron. Jag väntar otåligt på vår vän Ascanios ankomst. Han skrev till mig från Hamburg den 22 maj att vi snart skulle ses igen. Jag kommer att ta all min omsorg i att utföra de order som han kommer att överföra till mig på Ers Majestäts vägnar. I övrigt har han gjort klokt i att öppna brevet som jag hade skrivit till vår vän från Belgien; han hade rätt att göra det inte bara på grund av sin auktoritet över alla mina angelägenheter, utan också för att han vid detta tillfälle var tvungen att göra det för att veta hur han skulle bete sig mot denna person. The letter which was sent to me at the end of May through our friend from Belgium has informed me of the happy progress of Your Majesty and the memory that you deign to keep of my services. The consolation I have experienced is so great, so sweet, that I lack words to express it. A little earlier, Your Majesty's letter to Signor Alessandro had arrived, but he had moved on to a better life; I hope that he will extend over our enterprise a protection all the more powerful the closer he is to the throne of God. I am impatiently awaiting the arrival of our friend Ascanio. He wrote to me from Hamburg on May 22 that we would soon see each other again. I will take all my care in carrying out the orders that he will transmit to me on behalf of Your Majesty. For the rest, he has done well to open the letter that I had written to our friend from Belgium; he had the right to do so not only because of his authority over all my affairs, but also because, on this occasion, he was obliged to do so in order to know how to behave towards this person. His companion has already returned to his country and I hope he will do the same himself. From now on, they or any other of my friends will not be allowed to return there without an express order from Your Majesty. I have communicated nothing to them about our affair, and I will not say a word about it to anyone, except those who have been initiated into the secret from the beginning. I have warned Apollonio not to send any more letters to a place where there are too many people. I will write with more details after Ascanio arrives. I beg Your Majesty to have the enclosed letter given to Don Lucio, who will be able to give you clarification on anything that is not stated expressly enough in it. And I pray to Divine Goodness to preserve Your Majesty and to redouble its favours for you.
