Au nombre des premiers devoirs de la charge qui vient de m'être imposée, je compte l'obligation d'offrir à Votre Majesté l'hommage de ma reconnaissance, et de donner dès le principe un gage de mon profond dévouement à une reine qui a honoré notre famille des marques d'une si haute bienveillance. Dieu Notre-Seigneur, qui voit le fond des cœurs, sait combien je suis disposé à seconder les désirs de Votre Majesté en toute occasion où il lui plaira de requérir nos services, lesquels ne lui ont peut-être pas été jusqu'à présent absolument inutiles. Daigne Votre Majesté user de tout le pouvoir qu'elle a sur moi et sur les miens. En attendant je prie Dieu qu'il «prévienne Votre Majesté des bénédictions de sa douceur» et lui accorde une parfaite félicité

Bland de första plikterna för ämbetet som just har ålagts mig, inkluderar jag skyldigheten att erbjuda Ers Majestät hyllningen av min tacksamhet och att från början ge ett löfte om min djupa hängivenhet till en drottning som har hedrat vår familj med märken av så hög välvilja. Gud, vår Herre, som ser djupet av hjärtan, vet hur mycket jag är benägen att understödja Ers Majestäts önskningar vid varje tillfälle där det behagar Er att kräva våra tjänster, som kanske inte förrän nu varit helt värdelösa för Er. Among the first duties of the office which has just been imposed on me, I include the obligation to offer to Your Majesty the homage of my gratitude, and to give from the outset a pledge of my profound devotion to a queen who has honoured our family with marks of such high benevolence. God Our Lord, who sees the depths of hearts, knows how much I am disposed to second the desires of Your Majesty on any occasion where it pleases you to require our services, which perhaps have not until now been absolutely useless to you. May Your Majesty deign to use all the power you have over me and over my family. In the meantime I pray to God to "notify your Majesty of the blessings of His sweetness" and grant you perfect felicity.
