Quant aux nouveaux Gouverneurs des Provinces, lorsqu'on me fera quelque instance là-dessus, je prendrai les résolutions que je jugerai convenables. Cépendant sachez que pour Fleming, s'il promet de s'acquitter mieux de son devoir à l'avenir qu'il n'a fait par le passé, je n'aurai peut-être pas de peine à lui accorder la confirmation de sa Charge dans la même Province d'Oesel. Mais pour Ribbing, il n'a rien à espérer de moi; car ses déportemens ne méritent aucune grace. Au reste, dites à ceux qui se formalisent de ma Lettre, que si le texte leur déplaît, on ne me force pas d'en faire le commentaire; car sur ma parole il leur plaîroit encore moins, c'est tout ce que j'ai à vous dire. Ayez soin de me faire payer ce qui m'est dû de la Couronne: c'est-là l'important de l'affaire, & exécutez mes ordres sans vous mettre en peine de rien.

När det gäller de nya guvernörerna i provinserna, skall jag fatta de resolutioner som jag anser lämpliga, när något exempel kommer till mig i detta ämne. Emellertid vet att för Fleming, om han lovar att fullgöra sin plikt i framtiden bättre än han gjort tidigare, så kommer jag kanske inte att ha några svårigheter att bevilja honom bekräftelsen på hans charge i samma provinsen Ösel. Men när det gäller Ribbing har han inget att förvänta sig av mig, ty hans uppträdanden förtjänar ingen benådning. För övrigt, säg till dem som tar illa upp av mitt brev att om texten misshagar dem, så är jag inte tvungen att kommentera på den, ty på mitt ord skulle de vilja det ännu mindre; det är allt jag har att säga Er. English translation (my own):
As for the new governors of the provinces, when some instance is made to me on this subject, I will take the resolutions that I deem appropriate. In the meantime, know that for Fleming, if he promises to discharge his duty better in the future than he has done in the past, I shall perhaps have no difficulty in granting him the confirmation of his charge in the same province of Ösel. But as for Ribbing, he has nothing to expect from me, for his deportments deserve no pardon. For the rest, tell those who take offense at my letter that if the text displeases them, I am not forced to comment on it, for on my word they would like it even less; that is all I have to tell you. Take care to make me be paid what is due to me from the Crown, that is the important thing; and carry out my orders without worrying about anything.

När det gäller de nya guvernörerna i provinserna, när jag får en begäran om detta ämne, kommer jag att fatta de resolutioner som jag kommer att bedöma vara lämpliga.
Vet emellertid att för Fleming, om han lovar att i framtiden fullgöra sin plikt bättre än han gjort förut, så kommer jag kanske inte att ha några svårigheter att bevilja honom bekräftelse på hans åtal i samma provins Ösel; men angående Ribbing har han ingenting att hoppas på från mig, emedan hans uppträdanden inte förtjänar någon benådning. As for the new governors of the provinces, when I am made some request on this subject, I will take the resolutions that I will judge to be appropriate.
In the meantime, know that for Fleming, if he will promise to discharge his duty better in the future than he has done in the past, I will perhaps have no difficulty in granting him confirmation of his charge in the same province of Ösel; but as for Ribbing, he has nothing to hope for from me, because his deportments do not deserve any pardon. For the rest, execute all the orders that I have given you in my previous letters, to which I remit myself; and God preserve you. Rome, December 22, 1668. —
