Dalla lettera di V. S. del 29 del passato e da quella del padre priore ho veduto lo stato di cotesti affari. Il signor cardinale Azzolino ancora mi ha comunicato tutto ciò che V. S. gli ha scritto e quanto al dubbio avuto da lei che potessero recarmi disturbo li particolari ch'ella ha rappresentato alla E. S. in ordine alla mia persona, posso dirle ch'ella mi ha fatto torto a credere che le ho prevedute dal bel principio come haverà V. S. veduto dalle scritture e lettere con le quali l'ho infastidita sino da Hamburgo, ed ho conosciuto che il sesso mi sarebbe stato l'unico e grande ostacolo, e che per altro credo non mi saria disputata la mia pretensione.
Non mi resta più che dire sopra ciò avendo io et il cardinale Azzolino suggerito a V. S. tutto quello che poteva servire a vincere tale ostacolo, quanto per altro loco sia insuperabile, come pure so che V. S. avrà saputo valersi delli argomenti con la sua solita prudenza, io sono soddisfattissima della sua condotta, la quale è stata tale che io non lo avrei saputo desiderare più al mondo.

Le cardinal Azzolino m'a également communiqué tout ce que Votre Sérénité lui a écrit, et quant au doute qu'elle a eu sur le fait que les particularités qu'elle a présentées à Son Éminence concernant ma personne pourraient me déranger, je peux lui dire qu'elle m'a fait tort de croire que je les avais prévus dès le début, comme Votre Sérénité l'aura constaté par les écrits et les lettres avec lesquels je l'ai ennuyé depuis Hambourg, et je savais que le sexe serait pour moi l'unique et le plus grand obstacle, et que autrement je crois que ma prétention n'aurait pas été contestée.
Il ne me reste plus qu'à dire à ce sujet que moi et le cardinal Azzolino avons suggéré à Votre Sérénité tout ce qui pouvait être utilisé pour surmonter cet obstacle, car il est autrement insuperable, de même que je sais que Votre Sérénité aura su mettre à profit des arguments avec sa prudence habituelle, je suis très satisfaite de sa conduite, qui était telle que je n'aurais pas pu la souhaiter davantage au monde.

Monsieur le Cardinal m'a de-même communiqué tout ce que vous lui avez écrit, & quant au doute que vous avez fait remarquer, que les particularités au sujet de ma personne, que vous lui avez représentées, pourroient me causer quelques troubles, je puis vous dire, Monsieur, que vous m'avez fait tort de croire qu'elles m'eussent pu faire du chagrin; car j'ai prévu tout cela dès le commencement, comme vous l'aurez remarqué dans nombre de mes Lettres que je vous ai écrites dès Hambourg, & que j'ai connu que le sexe me seroit un grand obstacle: je crois autrement que ma pretention ne me seroit pas beaucoup disputée. Il ne me reste dont plus à dire là-dessus (depuis que moi & le Cardinal Azzolino avons suggéré tout ce qui pourroit servir à vaincre un tel obstacle) que celui du Mariage ne paroît pas avoir été insurmontable. Jag tror annars att min pretention inte skulle vara mycket omtvistad med mig. The Cardinal has likewise communicated to me all that you have written to him, and as for the doubt that you have pointed out, that the peculiarities concerning my person, which you have represented to him, could cause me some trouble, I can tell you, Monsignor, that you did me wrong in believing that they could have caused me grief; for I have foreseen all this from the beginning, as you will have noticed in a number of my letters which I wrote to you from Hamburg, and which I knew that my sex would be a great obstacle to me. I believe otherwise that my pretension would not be much disputed with me. It only remains for me to say on this point (since I and Cardinal Azzolino have suggested everything that could serve to overcome such an obstacle) that that of marriage does not appear to have been insurmountable. I know, Monsignor, that you will have been able to avail yourself of the arguments which have been furnished to you for this purpose, according to your ordinary prudence. I am very happy with your conduct, which has been such that I could not have wished it better in the world.
