Le 31. Août 1675.
J'ai reçu avec satisfaction toutes vos Lettres, & les nouvelles de ce qui se passe par-delà. Ne manquez pas de me les continuer toujours avec ponctualité. Cependant je vous ordonne en cas de nécessité d'aller demander de ma part à Monsieur l'Electeur de Brandebourg & au Général Ceppi les sauvegardes pour mes Bailliages de Poméranie, étant persuadée qu'ils ne me les refuseront pas; & après que vous m'aurez appris que vous les avez obtenues, je ne manquerai pas de les remercier de l'amitié & de l'affection qu'ils auront témoignée en cette occasion. Au-reste je vous recommande l'affaire de Boman, & me remettant à ce que mon Résident Texeira vous ordonnera sur mes intérêts, je prie Dieu &c.
P. S. Je vous répondrai par l'Ordinaire prochain sur le sujet des comptes que vous m'avez envoyés, & vous donnerai mes ordres là-dessus. Cependant je ne puis m'empêcher de vous dire, que je plains le malheur de la Suède, & prie Dieu qu'il pardonne à ceux qui sont cause de cette malheureuse guerre. Assurez Monsieur le Grand-Connétable, que son malheur me cause un sensible déplaisir, mais j'ai bien prévu tout ce qui est arrivé. Il faut aussi démander les mêmes sauvegardes à Wrangel, afin de les avoir des deux côtés.

Jag har med tillfredsställelse tagit emot alla Era brev och nyheterna om vad som händer bortom. Underlåt inte att fortsätta dem till mig alltid med punktlighet. Under tiden befaller jag Er i nödfall att gå och be kurfursten av Brandenburg och general Ceppi å mina vägnar om skydd för mina borgen i Pommern, övertygad om att de inte kommer att vägra mig dem; och sedan Ni har meddelat mig att Ni skaffat dem, skall jag inte underlåta att tacka dem för den vänskap och tillgivenhet som de visat vid detta tillfälle. I övrigt anförtror jag Boman-affären till Er, och förlitar mig på vad min resident Texeira skall beställa Er om mina intressen, ber jag till Gud, osv.
P. S. Jag skall svara Eder med nästa posten angående de räkenskaper Ni har skickat mig, och kommer att giva Er mina befallningar om detta. Under tiden kan jag inte låta bli att säga Er att jag tycker synd om Sveriges olycka, och jag ber Gud att förlåta dem som är orsaken till detta olyckliga krig. Försäkra riksmarsken att hans olycka orsakar mig avsevärt missnöje, men jag har förutsett allt som har hänt. Det är också nödvändigt att begära samma skydd från Wrangel, för att ha dem på båda sidor.
English translation (my own):
August 31, 1675.
I have received with satisfaction all your letters, and the news of what is going on beyond. Do not fail to continue them to me always with punctuality. In the meantime, I order you in case of necessity to go and ask the Elector of Brandenburg and General Ceppi on my behalf for safeguards for my bailiwicks in Pomerania, being convinced that they will not refuse them to me; and after you have informed me that you have obtained them, I will not fail to thank them for the friendship and affection they have shown on this occasion. For the rest, I commend the Boman affair to you, and relying on what my resident Texeira will order you about my interests, I pray to God, etc.
P. S. I will reply to you by the next ordinary on the subject of the accounts you have sent me, and will give you my orders on this. In the meantime, I cannot help telling you that I pity the misfortune of Sweden, and I pray God to forgive those who are the cause of this unfortunate war. Assure the Grand Constable that his misfortune causes me considerable displeasure, but I have foreseen everything that has happened. It is also necessary to request the same safeguards from Wrangel, in order to have them on both sides.
