Paris, Dec. 1. new style, 1657.

MAY IT PLEASE YOUR LORDSHIP,

SInce my last I have had no answer, the cardinal having imployed the greatest part of this weeke in treatting the qween of Swedden, who, it's said, hath at last obtained permissione to come to Paris for some tyme. She lodgeth in the pallace Mazirini, and is entertained their at the cardinal's expense. I am affrayed, I shall be oblydged to give her a visitt, since I ame informed all other publick ministers heare have resolved to pay her that respect. ...

Depuis ma dernière lettre, je n'ai reçu aucune réponse, le cardinal ayant consacré la plus grande partie de la semaine à traiter la reine de Suède, qui, dit-on, a enfin obtenu la permission de venir quelque temps à Paris. Elle loge au palais Mazarin et y est reçue aux frais du cardinal. Je crains d'être obligé de lui rendre visite, car j'ai appris que tous les autres ministres publics d'ici ont résolu de lui rendre ce respect. ...

Sedan mitt senaste brev har jag inte fått något svar, eftersom kardinalen har ägnat större delen av veckan åt att traktera Sveriges drottning, som, enligt uppgift, äntligen har fått tillstånd att komma till Paris en tid. Hon logerar på Mazarin-palatset och underhålls där på kardinalens bekostnad. Jag är rädd att jag kommer att bli förpliktad att besöka henne, ty jag har fått veta att alla andra publika ministrar här har beslutat att visa henne den respekten. ...
