J'ai vu votre Fils, qui m'a rendu votre Lettre pleine d'obligeantes expressions, que j'ai reçues avec toute l'estime que vous méritez. J'espére qu'il vous dira la maniére dont je l'ai reçu, aussi-bien que le cas que je fais de votre amitié, à laquelle je répondrai toujours par de véritables marques de la mienne. Cependant je vous remercie de vos civilités, & me réjouissant avec vous des bonnes qualités de votre Fils, je souhaitte que Dieu le conserve longues années aussi-bien que vous.
Swedish translation (my own):
Jag har sett Er son, som har givit mig Ert brev fullt av vänliga uttryck, som jag fått med all den aktning Ni förtjänar. Jag hoppas att han kommer att berätta för Er på vilket sätt jag har tagit emot honom, liksom det värde jag sätter på Er vänskap, som jag alltid kommer att bemöta med mina äkta betygelser. Emellertid tackar jag Er för Er artighet, och glädjande med Er över Er sons goda egenskaper, jag hoppas att Gud vill bevara honom, liksom Er, i många år.
English translation (my own):
I have seen your son, who has given me your letter full of kind expressions, which I have received with all the esteem you deserve. I hope he will tell you the manner in which I have received him, as well as the value I place on your friendship, to which I will always respond with genuine marks of mine. In the meantime, I thank you for your civilities, and rejoicing with you in the good qualities of your son, I hope that God will preserve him, as well as you, for many years.
